사무엘하 23장

 

These are the last words of David: "The oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, Israel's singer of songs : "The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: 'When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.' "Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire? 이것은 다윗이 마지막으로 남긴 말이다. 이새의 아들 다윗이 말한다. 높이 일으켜 세움을 받은 용사, 야곱의 하나님이 기름 부어 세우신 왕, 이스라엘에서 아름다운 시를 읊는 사람이 말한다. 주님의 영이 나를 통하여 말씀하시니, 그의 말씀이 나의 혀에 담겼다. 이스라엘의 하나님이 말씀하셨다. 이스라엘의 반석께서 나에게 이르셨다. 모든 사람을 공의로 다스리는 왕은, 하나님을 두려워하면서 다스리는 왕은, 구름이 끼지 않은 아침에 떠오르는 맑은 아침 햇살과 같다고 하시고, 비가 온 뒤에 땅에서 새싹을 돋게 하는 햇빛과도 같다고 하셨다. 진실로 나의 왕실이 하나님 앞에서 그와 같지 아니한가? 하나님이 나로 더불어 영원한 언약을 세우시고, 만사에 아쉬움 없이 잘 갖추어 주시고 견고하게 하셨으니, 어찌 나의 구원을 이루지 않으시며, 어찌 나의 모든 소원을 들어주지 않으시랴?

But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand. Whoever touches thorns uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear; they are burned up where they lie." These are the names of David's mighty men: Josheb-Basshebeth, a Tahkemonite, was chief of the Three; he raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter. Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim for battle. Then the men of Israel retreated, but he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead. 그러나 악한 사람들은 아무도 손으로 움켜 쥘 수 없는 가시덤불과 같아서, 쇠꼬챙이나 창자루가 없이는 만질 수도 없는 것, 불에 살라 태울 수밖에 없는 것들이다. 다윗이 거느린 용사들의 이름은 이러하다. 첫째는 다그몬 사람 요셉밧세벳인데, 그는 세 용사의 우두머리이다. 그는 팔백 명과 싸워서, 그들을 한꺼번에 쳐죽인 사람이다. 세 용사 가운데서 둘째는 아호아 사람 도도의 아들인 엘르아살이다. 그가 다윗과 함께 블레셋에게 대항해서 전쟁을 할 때에, 이스라엘 군인이 후퇴한 일이 있었다. 그 때에 엘르아살이 혼자 블레셋 군과 맞붙어서 블레셋 군인을 쳐죽였다. 나중에는 손이 굳어져서, 칼자루를 건성으로 잡고 있을 뿐이었다. 주님께서 그 날 엘르아살에게 큰 승리를 안겨 주셨으므로, 이스라엘 군인이 다시 돌아와서, 엘르아살의 뒤를 따라가면서 약탈하였다.

Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel's troops fled from them. But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory. During harvest time, three of the thirty chief men came down to David at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!" 세 용사 가운데서 셋째는, 하랄 사람으로서, 아게의 아들인 삼마이다. 블레셋 군대가 레히에 집결하였을 때에, 그 곳에는 팥을 가득 심은 팥 밭이 있었는데, 이스라엘 군대가 블레셋 군대를 보고서 도망하였지만, 삼마는 밭의 한가운데 버티고 서서, 그 밭을 지키면서, 블레셋 군인을 쳐죽였다. 주님께서 그에게 큰 승리를 안겨 주셨다. 수확을 시작할 때에, 블레셋 군대가 르바임 평원에 진을 치니, 삼십인 특별부대 소속인 이 세 용사가 아둘람 동굴로 다윗을 찾아갔다. 그 때에 다윗은 산성 요새에 있었고, 블레셋 군대의 진은 베들레헴에 있었다. 다윗이 간절하게 소원을 말하였다. "누가 베들레헴 성문 곁에 있는 우물물을 나에게 길어다 주어, 내가 마실 수 있도록 해주겠느냐?"

So the three mighty men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD. "Far be it from me, O LORD, to do this!" he said. "Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?" And David would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men. Abishai the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three. Was he not held in greater honor than the Three? He became their commander, even though he was not included among them. Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 그러자 그 세 용사가 블레셋 진을 뚫고 나가, 베들레헴의 성문 곁에 있는 우물물을 길어 가지고 와서 다윗에게 바쳤다. 그러나 다윗은 그 물을 마시지 않고, 길어 온 물을 주님께 부어 드리고 나서, 이렇게 말씀드렸다. "주님, 이 물을 제가 어찌 감히 마시겠습니까! 이것은, 목숨을 걸고 다녀온 세 용사의 피가 아닙니까!" 그러면서 그는 물을 마시지 않았다. 이 세 용사가 바로 이런 일을 하였다. 스루야의 아들이며 요압의 아우인 아비새는, 삼십인 특별부대의 우두머리였다. 바로 그가 창을 휘둘러서, 삼백 명을 쳐죽인 용사이다. 그는 세 용사와 함께 유명해졌다. 그는 삼십인 특별부대 안에서 가장 뛰어난 용사였다. 그는 삼십인 특별부대의 우두머리가 되기는 하였으나, 세 용사에 견줄 만하지는 못하였다. 여호야다의 아들인 브나야는 갑스엘 출신으로, 공적을 많이 세운 용사였다. 바로 그가 사자처럼 기운이 센 모압의 장수 아리엘의 아들 둘을 쳐죽였고, 또 눈이 내리는 어느 날, 구덩이에 내려가서, 거기에 빠진 사자를 때려 죽였다.

And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear. Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty men. He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard. Among the Thirty were: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem, Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite, 그는 또 이집트 사람 하나를 죽였는데, 그 이집트 사람은 풍채가 당당하였다. 그 이집트 사람은 창을 들고 있었으나, 브나야는 막대기 하나만을 가지고 그에게 덤벼들어서, 오히려 그 이집트 사람의 손에서 창을 빼앗아, 그 창으로 그를 죽였다. 여호야다의 아들 브나야가 이런 일을 해서, 그 세 용사와 함께 유명해졌다. 그는 삼십인 특별부대 안에서 뛰어난 장수로 인정을 받았으나, 세 용사에 견줄 만하지는 못하였다. 다윗은 그를 자기의 경호대장으로 삼았다. 삼십인 특별부대에 들어 있는 다른 용사들로서는, 다음과 같은 사람들이 더 있다. 요압의 아우 아사헬과, 베들레헴 사람 도도의 아들 엘하난과, 하롯 사람 삼마와, 하롯 사람 엘리가와,

Igal son of Nathan from Zobah, the son of Hagri, Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, the armor-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah, Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite and Uriah the Hittite. There were thirty-seven in all. 소바 사람으로 나단의 아들 이갈과, 갓 사람 바니와, 암몬 사람 셀렉과, 스루야의 아들 요압의 무기를 들고 다니는 브에롯 사람 나하래와, 이델 사람 이라와, 이델 사람 가렙과, 헷 사람 우리야까지, 모두 합하여 서른일곱 명이다.
