Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bicri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted, "We have no share in David, no part in Jesse's son! Every man to his tent, O Israel!" So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bicri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem. When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace and put them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but did not lie with them. They were kept in confinement till the day of their death, living as widows. Then the king said to Amasa, "Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself." But when Amasa went to summon Judah, he took longer than the time the king had set for him. 그 즈음에 불량배 한 사람이 그 곳에 있었는데, 그의 이름은 세바였다. 그는 비그리의 아들로서, 베냐민 사람이었다. 그는 나팔을 불면서, 이렇게 외쳤다. "장군은 유다 사람을 사흘 안에 모아 나에게 데려 오고, 그대도 함께 오시오." 아마사가 유다 사람을 모으러 갔으나, 왕이 그에게 정하여 준 기간을 넘겼다.

David said to Abishai, "Now Sheba son of Bicri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master's men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us." So Joab's men and the Kerethites and Pelethites and all the mighty warriors went out under the command of Abishai. They marched out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba son of Bicri. While they were at the great rock in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was wearing his military tunic, and strapped over it at his waist was a belt with a dagger in its sheath. As he stepped forward, it dropped out of its sheath. Joab said to Amasa, "How are you, my brother?" Then Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. Amasa was not on his guard against the dagger in Joab's hand, and Joab plunged it into his belly, and his intestines spilled out on the ground. Without being stabbed again, Amasa died. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bicri. 그래서 다윗은 아비새에게 명령하였다. "이제 비그리의 아들 세바가 압살롬보다도 더 우리를 해롭게 할 것이오. 그러므로 장군은 나의 부하들을 데리고 그를 뒤쫓아 가시오. 혹시라도 그가 잘 요새화된 성읍들을 발견하여 그리로 피하면, 우리가 찾지 못할까 염려되오." 그래서 요압의 부하들과 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람과 모든 용사가, 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓아 가려고, 아비새를 따라 예루살렘 밖으로 나갔다. 그들이 기브온의 큰 바위 곁에 이르렀을 때에, 아마사가 그들의 앞으로 다가왔다. 요압은 군복을 입고, 허리에 띠를 띠고 있었는데, 거기에는 칼집이 달려 있고, 그 칼집에는 칼이 들어 있었다. 요압이 나아갈 때에, 칼이 빠져 나와 있었다. 요압은 아마사에게 "형님, 평안하시오?" 하고 말하면서, 오른손으로 아마사의 턱수염을 붙잡고 입을 맞추었다. 요압이 다른 손으로 칼을 빼어 잡았는데, 아마사는 그것을 눈치채지 못하였다. 요압이 그 칼로 아마사의 배를 찔러서, 그의 창자가 땅바닥에 쏟아지게 하니, 다시 찌를 필요도 없이 아마사가 죽었다. 그런 다음에 요압은 자기 동생 아비새와 함께 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓아 갔다.

One of Joab's men stood beside Amasa and said, "Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!" Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the road, and the man saw that all the troops came to a halt there. When he realized that everyone who came up to Amasa stopped, he dragged him from the road into a field and threw a garment over him. After Amasa had been removed from the road, all the men went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bicri. Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel Beth Maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and followed him. All the troops with Joab came and besieged Sheba in Abel Beth Maacah. They built a siege ramp up to the city, and it stood against the outer fortifications. While they were battering the wall to bring it down, 그 때에 요압의 부하 한 사람이 아마사의 주검 곁에 서서 외쳤다. "요압을 지지하는 사람과 다윗 쪽에 선 사람은 요압 장군을 따르시오." 그러나 아마사가 큰 길의 한가운데서 피투성이가 되어 있었으므로, 지나가는 모든 군인이 멈추어 서는 것을, 요압의 부하가 보고, 아마사를 큰 길에서 들판으로 치워 놓았다. 그런데도 그의 곁으로 지나가는 군인마다 멈추어 서는 것을 보고, 요압의 부하가 아마사의 주검을 옷으로 덮어 놓았다. 그가 큰 길에서 아마사를 치우자, 군인들이 모두 요압을 따라서, 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓아 갔다. 세바가 모든 이스라엘 지파 가운데로 두루 다니다가, 아벨 지역과 벳마아가 지역과 베림의 온 지역까지 이르렀다. 그 곳 사람들이 모두 모여서, 그의 뒤를 따랐다. 요압을 따르는 군인들은 그 곳에 이르러서, 벳마아가의 아벨을 포위하고, 세바를 치기 시작하였다. 그들이 성읍을 보면서 둔덕을 쌓으니, 이 둔덕이 바깥 성벽의 높이만큼 솟아올랐다. 요압을 따르는 모든 군인이 성벽을 무너뜨리려고 부수기 시작하니,

a wise woman called from the city, "Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him." He went toward her, and she asked, "Are you Joab?" "I am," he answered. She said, "Listen to what your servant has to say." "I'm listening," he said. She continued, "Long ago they used to say, 'Get your answer at Abel,' and that settled it. We are the peaceful and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the LORD's inheritance?" "Far be it from me!" Joab replied, "Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy! 그 성읍에서 슬기로운 여인 하나가 이렇게 외쳤다. "제 말을 들어 보십시오. 좀 들어 보시기 바랍니다. 제가 장군께 드릴 말씀이 있으니, 요압 장군께, 이리로 가까이 오시라고, 말씀을 좀 전하여 주십시오!" 요압이 그 여인에게 가까이 가니, 그 여인이 "요압 장군이십니까?" 하고 물었다. 요압이 "그렇소" 하고 대답하니, 그 여인이 요압에게 "이 여종의 말을 좀 들어 보시기 바랍니다" 하였다. 요압이 말하였다. "어서 말하여 보시오." 그 여인이 말하였다. "옛날 속담에도 '물어 볼 것이 있으면, 아벨 지역에 가서 물어 보아라' 하였고, 또 그렇게 해서 무슨 일이든지 해결하였습니다. 저는 이스라엘에서 평화롭고 충실하게 사는 사람들 가운데 하나입니다. 그런데 장군께서는 지금 이스라엘에서 어머니와 같은 성읍을 하나 멸망시키려고 애쓰십니다. 왜 주님께서 주신 유산을 삼키려고 하십니까?" 요압이 대답하였다. "나는 절대로 그러는 것이 아니오. 정말로 그렇지가 않소. 나는 삼키거나 멸망시키려는 것이 아니오.

That is not the case. A man named Sheba son of Bicri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Hand over this one man, and I'll withdraw from the city." The woman said to Joab, "His head will be thrown to you from the wall." Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bicri and threw it to Joab. So he sounded the trumpet, and his men dispersed from the city, each returning to his home. And Joab went back to the king in Jerusalem. Joab was over Israel's entire army; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; Adoniram was in charge of forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder; Sheva was secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were priests; 그 일이 그런 것이 아니오. 사실은 에브라임 산간지방 출신인 비그리의 아들 세바라는 사람이, 다윗 왕에게 반기를 들어서 반란을 일으켰소. 여러분이 그 사람만 내주면, 내가 이 성읍에서 물러가겠소." 그 여인이 요압에게 말하였다. "그렇다면, 그의 머리를 곧 성벽 너머로 장군께 던져 드리겠소." 그런 다음에, 그 여인이 온 주민에게 돌아가서 슬기로운 말로 설득시키니, 그들이 비그리의 아들 세바의 머리를 잘라서, 요압에게 던져 주었다. 요압이 나팔을 부니, 모든 군인이 그 성읍에서 떠나, 저마다 자기 집으로 흩어져서 돌아갔다. 요압은 왕이 있는 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다. 요압은 온 이스라엘의 군대 사령관이 되고, 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람으로 이루어진 경호원들의 지휘를 맡고, 아도니람은 부역 감독관이 되고, 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 역사 기록관이 되고, 스와는 서기관이 되고, 사독과 아비아달은 제사장이 되고,

and Ira the Jairite was David's priest. 야일 사람 이라는 다윗의 제사장이 되었다.
