사무엘하 21장

 

During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, "It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death." The king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not a part of Israel but were survivors of the Amorites; the Israelites had sworn to spare them, but Saul in his zeal for Israel and Judah had tried to annihilate them.) David asked the Gibeonites, "What shall I do for you? How shall I make amends so that you will bless the LORD's inheritance?" The Gibeonites answered him, "We have no right to demand silver or gold from Saul or his family, nor do we have the right to put anyone in Israel to death." "What do you want me to do for you?" David asked. They answered the king, "As for the man who destroyed us and plotted against us so that we have been decimated and have no place anywhere in Israel, 다윗 시대에 세 해 동안이나 흉년이 들었다. 다윗이 주님 앞에 나아가서 그 곡절을 물으니, 주님께서 대답하셨다. "사울과 그의 집안이 기브온 사람을 죽여 살인죄를 지은 탓이다." 다윗은 기브온 사람을 불러다가 물어 보았다. （기브온 사람은 본래 이스라엘 백성의 자손이 아니라, 아모리 사람 가운데서 살아 남은 사람들이며, 이미 이스라엘 백성이 그들을 살려 주겠다고 맹세하였는데도, 사울은 이스라엘과 유다 백성을 편파적으로 사랑한 나머지, 할 수 있는 대로 그들을 다 죽이려고 하였다.） 다윗이 기브온 사람에게 물었다. "내가 당신들에게 어떻게 하면 좋겠소? 내가 무엇으로 보상을 하여야, 주님의 소유인 이 백성에게 복을 빌어 주시겠소?" 기브온 사람들이 그에게 말하였다. "사울이나 그의 집안과 우리 사이의 갈등은 은이나 금으로 해결할 문제가 아닙니다. 우리는 이스라엘 사람을 죽일 생각은 없습니다." 다윗이 그들에게 물었다. let seven of his male descendants be given to us to be killed and exposed before the LORD at Gibeah of Saul--the Lord 's chosen one." So the king said, "I will give them to you." The king spared Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath before the LORD between David and Jonathan son of Saul. But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of Aiah's daughter Rizpah, whom she had borne to Saul, together with the five sons of Saul's daughter Merab, whom she had borne to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite. He handed them over to the Gibeonites, who killed and exposed them on a hill before the LORD. All seven of them fell together; they were put to death during the first days of the harvest, just as the barley harvest was beginning. Rizpah daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest till the rain poured down from the heavens on the bodies, she did not let the birds of the air touch them by day or the wild animals by night. 그의 자손 가운데서 남자 일곱 명을 우리에게 넘겨 주시기를 바랍니다. 그러면 주님께서 택하신 왕 사울이 살던 기브아에서, 우리가 주님 앞에서 그들을 나무에 매달겠습니다." 왕이 약속하였다. "내가 그들을 넘겨 주겠소." 그러나 다윗은 사울의 아들인 요나단과 그들 사이에 계시는 주님 앞에서 맹세한 일을 생각하여, 사울의 손자요 요나단의 아들인 므비보셋은, 아껴서 빼놓았다. 그 대신에 왕은 아야의 딸 리스바가 사울과의 사이에서 낳은 두 아들인 알모니와 므비보셋을 붙잡고, 또 사울의 딸 메랍이 므홀랏 사람 바르실래의 아들인 아드리엘과의 사이에서 낳은 아들 다섯을 붙잡아다가, 기브온 사람의 손에 넘겨 주었다. 기브온 사람이 주님 앞에서 그들을 산에 있는 나무에 매달아 놓으니, 그 일곱이 다 함께 죽었다. 그들이 처형을 받은 것은 곡식을 거두기 시작할 무렵, 곧 보리를 거두기 시작할 때였다. 그 때에 아야의 딸 리스바가 굵은 베로 만든 천을 가져다가 바윗돌 위에 쳐 놓고, 그 밑에 앉아서, 보리를 거두기 시작할 때로부터 하늘에서 그 주검 위로 가을 비가 쏟아질 때까지, 낮에는 공중의 새가 그 주검 위에 내려 앉지 못하게 하고, 밤에는 들짐승들이 얼씬도 하지 못하게 하였다.

When David was told what Aiah's daughter Rizpah, Saul's concubine, had done, he went and took the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh Gilead. (They had taken them secretly from the public square at Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hung them after they struck Saul down on Gilboa.) David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from there, and the bones of those who had been killed and exposed were gathered up. They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul's father Kish, at Zela in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land. Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. 아야의 딸이며 사울의 첩인 리스바가 이렇게 하였다는 소문이 다윗에게 전해지니, 다윗이 길르앗의 야베스로 가서, 사울의 뼈와 그의 아들 요나단의 뼈를 그 주민에게서 찾아왔다. （블레셋 사람이 길보아 산에서 사울을 죽일 때에, 블레셋 사람이 사울과 요나단의 시신을 벳산의 광장에 매달아 두었는데, 거기에서 그 시신을 몰래 거두어 간 이들이 바로 길르앗의 야베스 주민이다.） 다윗이 이렇게 사울의 뼈와 그의 아들 요나단의 뼈를 거기에서 가지고 올라오니, 사람들이 나무에 매달아 죽인 다른 사람들의 뼈도 모아서, 사울의 뼈와 그의 아들 요나단의 뼈와 함께, 베냐민 지파의 땅인 셀라에 있는 사울의 아버지 기스의 무덤에 합장하였다. 사람들이, 다윗이 지시한 모든 명령을 따라서 그대로 한 뒤에야, 하나님이, 그 땅을 돌보아 주시기를 비는 그들의 기도를 들어주셨다. 블레셋과 이스라엘 사이에 다시 전쟁이 일어나서, 다윗이 군대를 거느리고 내려가서, 블레셋 사람과 싸웠다. 블레셋 사람과 싸우는 전투에서 다윗이 몹시 지쳐 있을 때에,

And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels and who was armed with a new sword , said he would kill David. But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David's rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David's men swore to him, saying, "Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished." In the course of time, there was another battle with the Philistines, at Gob. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha. In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver's rod. In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot--twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. 거인족의 자손인 이스비브놉이라는 사람이 삼백 세겔이나 되는 청동 창을 들고, 허리에는 새 칼을 차고, 다윗을 죽이려고 덤벼들었다. 그러자 스루야의 아들 아비새가 그 블레셋 사람을 쳐죽이고, 다윗을 보호하였다. 그런 다음에는, 다윗의 부하들이 다윗에게, 다시는 자기들과 함께 싸움터에 나가지 않겠다고 약속을 받고서 그에게 말하였다. "임금님은 이스라엘의 등불이십니다. 우리는 우리의 등불이 꺼지지 않도록 지키고자 합니다." 그 뒤에 다시 곱에서 블레셋 사람과 전쟁이 일어났다. 그 때에 후사 사람 십브개가 거인족의 자손인 삽을 쳐죽였다. 또 곱에서 블레셋 사람과 전쟁이 일어났다. 그 때에는 베들레헴 사람인 야레오르김의 아들 엘하난이 가드 사람 골리앗을 죽였는데, 골리앗의 창자루는 베틀 앞다리같이 굵었다. 또 가드에서 전쟁이 벌어졌을 때에 거인이 하나 나타났는데, 그는 손가락과 발가락이 여섯 개씩 모두 스물넷이었다. 이 사람도 거인족의 자손 가운데 하나였다.

When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David's brother, killed him. These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men. 그가 이스라엘을 조롱하므로, 다윗의 형 삼마의 아들 요나단이 그를 쳐죽였다. 이 네 사람은 모두 가드에서 태어난 거인족의 자손인데, 다윗과 그 부하들에게 모두 죽었다.
