사무엘하 24장

 

Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, "Go and take a census of Israel and Judah." So the king said to Joab and the army commanders with him, "Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and enroll the fighting men, so that I may know how many there are." But Joab replied to the king, "May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?" The king's word, however, overruled Joab and the army commanders; so they left the presence of the king to enroll the fighting men of Israel. After crossing the Jordan, they camped near Aroer, south of the town in the gorge, and then went through Gad and on to Jazer. 주님께서 다시 이스라엘에게 진노하셔서, 백성을 치시려고, 다윗을 부추기셨다. "너는 이스라엘과 유다의 인구를 조사하여라." 그래서 왕은 데리고 있는 군사령관 요압에게 지시하였다. "어서 단에서부터 브엘세바에 이르기까지, 이스라엘의 모든 지파를 두루 다니며 인구를 조사하여서, 이 백성의 수를 나에게 알려 주시오." 그러나 요압이 왕에게 말하였다. They went to Gilead and the region of Tahtim Hodshi, and on to Dan Jaan and around toward Sidon. Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the towns of the Hivites and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba in the Negev of Judah. After they had gone through the entire land, they came back to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand. David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. "내가 이러한 일을 해서, 큰 죄를 지었습니다. 그러나 주님, 이제 이 종의 죄를 용서해 주시기를 빕니다. 참으로 내가 너무나도 어리석은 일을 하였습니다."

Before David got up the next morning, the word of the LORD had come to Gad the prophet, David's seer: "Go and tell David, 'This is what the LORD says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.' " So Gad went to David and said to him, "Shall there come upon you three years of famine in your land? Or three months of fleeing from your enemies while they pursue you? Or three days of plague in your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should answer the one who sent me." David said to Gad, "I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men." So the LORD sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. 다윗이 다음날 아침에 일어났을 때에, 다윗의 선견자로 있는 예언자 갓이 주님의 말씀을 받았다. "너는 다윗에게 가서 전하여라. '나 주가 말한다. 내가 너에게 세 가지를 내놓겠으니, 너는 그 가운데서 하나를 택하여라. 그러면 내가 너에게 그대로 처리하겠다.'" 갓이 다윗에게 가서, 그에게 말하여 알렸다. "괴롭기가 그지없습니다. 그래도 주님은 자비가 많으신 분이니, 차라리 우리가 주님의 손에 벌을 받겠습니다. 사람의 손에 벌을 받고 싶지는 않습니다." 그리하여 그 날 아침부터 정하여진 때까지, 주님께서 이스라엘에 전염병을 내리시니, 단에서부터 브엘세바에 이르기까지, 백성 가운데서 죽은 사람이 칠만 명이나 되었다.

When the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD was grieved because of the calamity and said to the angel who was afflicting the people, "Enough! Withdraw your hand." The angel of the LORD was then at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the LORD, "I am the one who has sinned and done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? Let your hand fall upon me and my family." On that day Gad went to David and said to him, "Go up and build an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite." So David went up, as the LORD had commanded through Gad. When Araunah looked and saw the king and his men coming toward him, he went out and bowed down before the king with his face to the ground. 천사가 예루살렘 쪽으로 손을 뻗쳐서 그 도성을 치는 순간에, 주님께서는 재앙을 내리신 것을 뉘우치시고, 백성을 사정없이 죽이는 천사에게 "그만하면 됐다. 이제 너의 손을 거두어라" 하고 명하셨다. 그 때에 주님의 천사는 여부스 사람 아라우나의 타작 마당 곁에 있었다. 그 때에 다윗이 백성을 쳐죽이는 천사를 보고, 주님께 아뢰었다. "바로 내가 죄를 지은 사람입니다. 바로 내가 이런 악을 저지른 사람입니다. 백성은 양 떼일 뿐입니다. 그들에게는 아무런 잘못도 없습니다. 나와 내 아버지의 집안을 쳐 주십시오." 그 날 갓이 다윗에게 와서 말하였다. "여부스 사람 아라우나의 타작 마당으로 올라가셔서, 거기에서 주님께 제단을 쌓으십시오." 다윗은 갓이 전하여 준 주님의 명령에 따라서, 그 곳으로 올라갔다. 마침 아라우나가 내다보고 있다가, 왕과 신하들이 자기에게로 올라오는 것을 보았다. 아라우나는 곧 왕의 앞으로 나아가서, 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 절을 하였다.

Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" "To buy your threshing floor," David answered, "so I can build an altar to the LORD, that the plague on the people may be stopped." Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take whatever pleases him and offer it up. Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and here are threshing sledges and ox yokes for the wood. O king, Araunah gives all this to the king." Araunah also said to him, "May the LORD your God accept you." But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them. David built an altar to the LORD there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the LORD answered prayer in behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped. 그런 다음에 물었다. "높으신 임금님께서는, 무엇이든지 좋게 여기시는 대로 골라다가 제물로 바치시기 바랍니다. 보십시오, 여기에 번제로 드릴 소도 있고, 땔감으로는 타작기의 판자와 소의 멍에가 있습니다. 임금님, 아라우나가 이 모든 것을 임금님께 바칩니다." 그리고 아라우나는 또 왕에게 이와 같이 말하였다. "주 임금님의 하나님이 임금님의 제물을 기쁜 마음으로 받아 주시기를 바랍니다." 그러나 왕은 아라우나에게 말하였다. "그렇게 해서는 안 되오. 내가 꼭 값을 지불하고서 사겠소. 내가 거저 얻은 것으로 주 나의 하나님께 번제를 드리지는 않겠소." 그래서 다윗은 은 쉰 세겔을 주고, 그 타작 마당과 소를 샀다. 거기에서 다윗은 주님께 제단을 쌓아, 번제와 화목제를 드렸다. 다윗이 땅을 돌보아 달라고 주님께 비니, 주님께서 그의 기도를 들어 주셔서, 이스라엘에 내리던 재앙이 그쳤다.
