In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its surrounding villages from the control of the Philistines. David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to him and brought tribute. Moreover, David fought Hadadezer king of Zobah, as far as Hamath, when he went to establish his control along the Euphrates River. David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses. He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The LORD gave David victory everywhere he went. David took the gold shields carried by the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. From Tebah and Cun, towns that belonged to Hadadezer, David took a great quantity of bronze, which Solomon used to make the bronze Sea, the pillars and various bronze articles. When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze. 그리고 다윗이 시리아의 다마스쿠스에 주둔군을 두니, 시리아도 다윗의 종이 되어 그에게 조공을 바쳤다. 다윗이 어느 곳으로 출전하든지, 주님께서 그에게 승리를 안겨 주셨다. 그 때에 다윗은 하닷에셀의 신하들이 가지고 있던 금방패를 다 빼앗아서, 예루살렘으로 가져 왔다. 또 다윗은, 하닷에셀의 두 성읍 디브핫과 군에서는 놋쇠를 아주 많이 빼앗아 왔다. 이것으로 솔로몬이 바다 모양 물통과 기둥과 놋그릇을 만들었다. 하맛 왕 도이는, 다윗이 소바 왕 하닷에셀의 온 군대를 쳐서 이겼다는 소식을 들었다. 그는 자기의 아들 요람을 다윗 왕에게 보내어 문안하게 하고, 다윗이 하닷에셀과 싸워서 이긴 것을 축하하게 하였다. 하닷에셀은 도이와 서로 싸우는 사이였다. 요람은 금과 은과 놋으로 만든 물건들을 가져 왔다.

King David dedicated these articles to the LORD, as he had done with the silver and gold he had taken from all these nations: Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The LORD gave David victory everywhere he went. David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people. Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder; 다윗 왕은 이것들도 따로 구별하여, 에돔, 모압, 암몬 사람, 블레셋 사람, 아말렉 등 여러 민족에게서 가져 온 은 금과 함께, 주님께 구별하여 바쳤다. 스루야의 아들 아비새가 '소금 골짜기'에서 에돔 사람 만 팔천 명을 쳐죽이고, 에돔에 주둔군을 두었다. 마침내 온 에돔 사람이 다윗의 종이 되었다. 다윗이 어느 곳으로 출전하든지, 주님께서 그에게 승리를 안겨 주셨다. 다윗이 왕이 되어서 이렇게 온 이스라엘을 다스릴 때에, 그는 언제나 자기의 백성 모두를 공평하고 의로운 법으로 다스렸다. 스루야의 아들 요압은 군사령관이 되고, 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 역사 기록관이 되고,

Zadok son of Ahitub and Ahimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was secretary; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; and David's sons were chief officials at the king's side. 아히둡의 아들 사독과 아비아달의 아들 아히멜렉은 제사장이 되고, 사워사는 서기관이 되고, 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람의 지휘관이 되었다. 다윗의 아들들은 왕을 모시는 대신이 되었다.
