여호수아 17장

 

This was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph's firstborn, that is, for Makir, Manasseh's firstborn. Makir was the ancestor of the Gileadites, who had received Gilead and Bashan because the Makirites were great soldiers. So this allotment was for the rest of the people of Manasseh--the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph by their clans. Now Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the LORD's command. Manasseh's share consisted of ten tracts of land besides Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan, 요단 강 서쪽 땅 일부는 요셉의 맏아들인 므낫세 지파가 제비를 뽑아서 나누어 가졌다. 길르앗의 아버지 마길은 므낫세의 맏아들이며 전쟁 영웅이었으므로, 요단 강 동쪽에 있는 길르앗과 바산을 이미 자기의 몫으로 차지하였다. 요단 강 서쪽 땅은 므낫세의 남은 자손 가운데서 아비에셀과 헬렉과 아스리엘과 세겜과 헤벨과 스미다와 같은 이들의 가문이 차지하였다. 이들은 요셉의 아들 므낫세의 남자 자손으로서, 가문을 이룬 이들이다. 므낫세 자손 가운데 슬로브핫이라는 사람이 있었다. 므낫세의 아들 마길은 길르앗을 낳았고, 길르앗의 아들 헤벨은 슬로브핫을 낳았는데, 슬로브핫은 딸만 낳았으며, 아들이 없었다. 그 딸들의 이름은 말라와 노아와 호글라와 밀가와 디르사이다. 그들이 제사장 엘르아살과 눈의 아들 여호수아와 지도자들 앞에 나아와서 말하였다. "주님께서 모세에게, 우리 남자 친족이 유산을 받을 때에, 우리도 그 가운데 끼워 주라고 명령하셨습니다." 그래서 여호수아는 주님의 명대로, 그들의 아버지의 남자 친족들이 유산을 받을 때에 그들을 그 가운데 끼워 주었다. 그래서 요단 강 동쪽의 길르앗과 바산 땅 밖에도, 므낫세에게 열 몫이 더 돌아갔다.

because the daughters of the tribe of Manasseh received an inheritance among the sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the descendants of Manasseh. The territory of Manasseh extended from Asher to Micmethath east of Shechem. The boundary ran southward from there to include the people living at En Tappuah. (Manasseh had the land of Tappuah, but Tappuah itself, on the boundary of Manasseh, belonged to the Ephraimites.) Then the boundary continued south to the Kanah Ravine. There were towns belonging to Ephraim lying among the towns of Manasseh, but the boundary of Manasseh was the northern side of the ravine and ended at the sea. On the south the land belonged to Ephraim, on the north to Manasseh. The territory of Manasseh reached the sea and bordered Asher on the north and Issachar on the east. 므낫세 지파의 딸들이 아들들 가운데 끼어 유산을 받았기 때문이다. 길르앗 땅은 므낫세의 남은 자손들의 몫이 되었다. 므낫세의 경계선은, 아셀에서부터 세겜의 동쪽에 있는 믹므닷에 이르고, 남쪽으로 가서 엔답부아 주민이 살고 있는 땅에까지 미친다. 답부아 주변의 땅은 므낫세의 소유이나, 경계선에 있는 답부아 성읍은 에브라임 자손의 소유이다. 또 그 경계선은 가나 개울로 내려간다. 그 개울 남쪽으로 성읍들이 있는데, 이것들은 므낫세의 지역 가운데 있지만, 에브라임에 딸린 것이다. 므낫세의 경계선은 그 개울의 북쪽으로부터 시작하여 지중해에 이르러 끝난다. 그 남쪽은 에브라임의 소유이고, 북쪽은 므낫세의 소유인데, 지중해가 그들의 서쪽 경계이다. 그 땅이 북서쪽으로는 아셀에 맞닿고, 북동쪽으로는 잇사갈에 맞닿았다.

Within Issachar and Asher, Manasseh also had Beth Shan, Ibleam and the people of Dor, Endor, Taanach and Megiddo, together with their surrounding settlements (the third in the list is Naphoth ). Yet the Manassites were not able to occupy these towns, for the Canaanites were determined to live in that region. However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labor but did not drive them out completely. The people of Joseph said to Joshua, "Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people and the LORD has blessed us abundantly." "If you are so numerous," Joshua answered, "and if the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites." 벳산과 그 변두리 마을, 이블르암과 그 변두리 마을, 해안에 있는 도르의 주민과 그 변두리 마을, 엔돌의 주민과 그 변두리 마을, 다아낙 주민과 그 변두리 마을, 므깃도의 주민과 그 변두리 마을은（셋째는 나벳인데）, 잇사갈과 아셀의 지역 안에 있는 므낫세의 소유이다. 므낫세 자손이 이 성읍들의 주민을 쫓아내지 못하였으므로, 가나안 사람들은 그 땅에서 살기로 마음을 굳혔다. 이스라엘 자손이 강성해진 다음에 가나안 사람에게 노동을 시켰으나, 그들을 다 쫓아내지는 않았다. 요셉 자손이 여호수아에게 말하였다. "주님께서 지금까지 우리에게 복을 주셔서 우리가 큰 무리가 되었는데, 어른께서는 왜 우리에게, 한 번만 제비를 뽑아서 한 몫만 유산으로 가지게 하십니까?" 여호수아가 그들에게 말하였다. "당신들이 큰 무리이어서 에브라임 산간지방이 당신들에게 작다면, 거기에서 브리스 사람과 르바임 사람의 땅인 삼림지대로 올라가서 그 곳을 개간하시오."

The people of Joseph replied, "The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the plain have iron chariots, both those in Beth Shan and its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel." But Joshua said to the house of Joseph--to Ephraim and Manasseh-"You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have iron chariots and though they are strong, you can drive them out." 요셉 자손이 말하였다. "그 산간지방은 우리에게 넉넉하지 못하고, 그 골짜기 땅 곧 벳산과 그 변두리 마을과 이스르엘 골짜기에 사는 가나안 사람들에게는 다 철 병거가 있습니다." 여호수아가 다시 요셉 족속인 에브라임 지파와 서쪽 므낫세 지파에게 말하였다. "당신들은 큰 무리요, 큰 세력도 가졌으니, 한 몫만 가질 일이 아닙니다. 산간지방도 당신들의 것이 될 것이오. 산간지방이라 하더라도, 그 곳을 개간하여 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 차지하시오. 가나안 사람들이 철 병거를 가져서 강하다 하더라도, 당신들은 그들을 쫓아낼 수 있소."
