여호수아 6장

Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in." 여리고 성은 이스라엘 자손을 막으려고 굳게 닫혀 있었고, 출입하는 사람이 없었다. 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 여리고와 그 왕과 용사들을 너의 손에 붙인다. 너희 가운데서 전투를 할 수 있는 모든 사람은, 엿새 동안 그 성 주위를 날마다 한 번씩 돌아라. 제사장 일곱 명을, 숫양 뿔 나팔 일곱 개를 들고 궤 앞에서 걷게 하여라. 이레째 되는 날에, 너희는 제사장들이 나팔을 부는 동안 성을 일곱 번 돌아라. 제사장들이 숫양 뿔 나팔을 한 번 길게 불면, 백성은 그 나팔 소리를 듣고 모두 큰 함성을 질러라. 그러면 성벽이 무너져 내릴 것이다. 그 때에 백성은 일제히 진격하여라."

So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it." And he ordered the people, "Advance! March around the city, with the armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD." When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD's covenant followed them. The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. But Joshua had commanded the people, "Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!" 눈의 아들 여호수아가 제사장들을 불러서 말하였다. "언약궤를 메고 서시오. 그리고 일곱 제사장은 제각기 일곱 숫양 뿔 나팔을 들고 주님의 궤 앞에 서시오." 또 그는 백성에게 말하였다. "앞으로 나아가거라! 성을 돌아라! 무장한 선발대는 주님의 궤 앞에 서서 행군하여라!" 여호수아가 백성에게 명령한 대로, 제각기 숫양 뿔 나팔을 든 일곱 제사장은 주님 앞에서 행군하며 나팔을 불었고, 주님의 언약궤는 그 뒤를 따랐다. 또한 무장한 선발대는 나팔을 부는 제사장들보다 앞서서 나갔고, 후발대는 궤를 따라갔다. 그 동안 제사장들은 계속하여 나팔을 불었다. 여호수아가 또 백성에게 명령하였다. "함성을 지르지 말아라. 너희 목소리가 들리지 않게 하여라. 한 마디도 입 밖에 내지 말고 있다가, 내가 너희에게 '외쳐라' 하고 명령할 때에, 큰소리로 외쳐라."

So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. Then the people returned to camp and spent the night there. Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding. So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days. On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. 이처럼 여호수아는 주님의 궤를 메고 성을 한 바퀴 돌게 한 다음에 진에 돌아와서, 그 밤을 진에서 지내게 하였다. 다음날 아침에 여호수아가 일찍 일어났다. 제사장들도 다시 주님의 궤를 메었다. 제각기 숫양 뿔 나팔을 든 일곱 제사장은 주님의 궤 앞에 서서, 계속 행군하며 나팔을 불었고, 무장한 선발대는 그들보다 앞서서 나아갔으며, 후발대는 주님의 궤를 뒤따랐다. 그 동안 제사장들은 계속하여 나팔을 불었다. 이튿날도 그들은 그 성을 한 바퀴 돌고 진으로 돌아왔다. 그들은 엿새 동안 이렇게 하였다. 드디어 이렛날이 되었다. 그들은 새벽 동이 트자 일찍 일어나서 전과 같이 성을 돌았는데, 이 날만은 일곱 번을 돌았다.

The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, "Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the LORD. only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid the spies we sent. But keep away from the devoted things, so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction and bring trouble on it. All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must go into his treasury." When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city. 일곱 번째가 되어서, 제사장들이 나팔을 불 때에, 여호수아가 백성에게 이렇게 명령하였다. "큰소리로 외쳐라! 주님께서 너희에게 이 성을 주셨다. 이 성과 이 안에 있는 모든 것을 전멸시켜서, 그것을 주님께 제물로 바쳐라. 그러나 창녀 라합과 그 여인의 집에 있는 사람은 모두 살려 주어라. 그 여인은 우리가 보낸 정탐꾼들을 숨겨 주었다. 너희는, 전멸시켜서 바치는 희생제물에 손을 댔다가 스스로 파멸당하는 일이 없도록 주의하여라. 너희가 전멸시켜서 바치는 그 제물을 가지면, 이스라엘 진은 너희 때문에 전멸할 것이다. 모든 은이나 금, 놋이나 철로 만든 그릇은, 다 주님께 바칠 것이므로 거룩하게 구별하여, 주님의 금고에 넣도록 하여라." 제사장들이 나팔을 불었다. 그 나팔 소리를 듣고서, 백성이 일제히 큰소리로 외치니, 성벽이 무너져 내렸다. 백성이 일제히 성으로 진격하여 그 성을 점령하였다.

They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it--men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys. Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute's house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her." So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel. Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD's house. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho--and she lives among the Israelites to this day. 성 안에 있는 사람을, 남자나 여자나 어른이나 아이를 가리지 않고 모두 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바치고, 소나 양이나 나귀까지도 모조리 칼로 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바쳤다. 여호수아는 그 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 두 사람에게 말하였다. "그 창녀의 집으로 들어가서, 너희가 맹세한 대로, 그 여인과 그에게 딸린 모든 사람을 그 곳에서 데리고 나오너라." 정탐하러 갔던 젊은이들이 가서, 라합과 그의 아버지와 어머니와 오라버니들과 그에게 딸린 모든 사람을 데리고 나왔다. 라합의 식구들을 모두 이끌어 내어, 이스라엘 진 밖으로 데려다 놓았다. 그리고 그들은 그 성읍과 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 불로 태웠다. 그러나 은이나 금이나 놋이나 철로 만든 그릇만은 주님의 집 금고에 들여 놓았다. 여호수아는 창녀 라합과 그의 아버지 집과 그에게 딸린 사람을 다 살려 주었다. 라합이 오늘날까지 이스라엘 백성 가운데 살고 있는데, 그것은 여호수아가 여리고를 정탐하도록 보낸 사람들을 그가 숨겨 주었기 때문이다.

At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath: "Cursed before the LORD is the man who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: "At the cost of his firstborn son will he lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest will he set up its gates." So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land. 그 때에 여호수아가 이렇게 맹세하였다. "이 여리고 성을 일으켜 다시 세우겠다고 하는 자는, 주님 앞에서 저주를 받을 것이다. 성벽 기초를 놓는 자는 맏아들을 잃을 것이요, 성문을 다는 자는 막내 아들을 잃을 것이다." 주님께서 여호수아와 함께 계셨으므로 그의 명성이 온 땅에 두루 퍼졌다.
