고린도후서 3장

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 우리가 이렇게 말하는 것이 우리 자신을 치켜올리는 말을 늘어 놓는 것입니까? 아니면, 어떤 사람들처럼, 우리가, 여러분에게 보일 추천장이나 여러분이 주는 추천장을 필요로 하는 사람들이겠습니까? 여러분이야말로 우리를 천거하여 주는 추천장입니다. 그것은 우리 마음에 적혀 있습니다. 모든 사람이 그것을 알고, 읽습니다. 여러분은 분명히 그리스도께서 쓰신 편지입니다. 우리는 그것을 작성하는 데에 봉사하였습니다. 그것은 먹물로 쓴 것이 아니라 살아 계신 하나님의 영으로 쓴 것이요, 돌판에 쓴 것이 아니라 가슴 판에 쓴 것입니다. 우리는 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님께 확신을 가지고 있으므로, 이런 말을 합니다. 우리가 이런 일을 할 수 있는 자격이 우리에게서 났다고 생각하지 않습니다. 우리의 자격은 하나님에게서 납니다.

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 하나님께서 우리에게 새 언약의 일꾼이 되는 자격을 주셨습니다. 이 새 언약은 문자로 된 것이 아니라, 영으로 된 것입니다. 문자는 사람을 죽이고, 영은 사람을 살립니다. 돌판에다 문자로 새긴 율법을 선포할 때에도, 광채가 났습니다. 그래서, 이스라엘 자손들은, 모세의 얼굴에 나타난 그 광채 때문에, 비록 곧 사라질 것이었지만, 그의 얼굴을 똑바로 쳐다볼 수 없었습니다. 죽음에 이르게 하는 직분에도 이러한 영광이 따랐는데, 하물며 영의 직분에는 더욱더 영광이 넘치지 않겠습니까? 유죄를 선고하는 직분에도 영광이 있었으면, 의를 베푸는 직분은 더욱더 영광이 넘칠 것입니다. 참으로 이런 점에서 지금까지 영광으로 빛나던 것이, 이제 훨씬 더 빛나는 영광이 나타났기 때문에, 그 빛을 잃게 되었다고 하겠습니다.

And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 잠시 있다가 사라져 버릴 것도 생길 때에 영광을 입었으니, 길이 남을 것은 더욱 영광 속에 있을 것입니다. 우리는 이런 소망을 가지고 있으므로, 아주 대담하게 처신합니다. 모세는, 이스라엘 자손이 자기 얼굴의 광채가 사라져 가는 것을 보지 못하게 하려고 그 얼굴에 너울을 썼지만, 그와 같은 일은 우리는 하지 않습니다. 그런데 이스라엘 백성의 생각은 완고해졌습니다. 그리하여 오늘날에 이르기까지도 그들은, 옛 언약의 책을 읽을 때에, 바로 그 너울을 벗지 못하고 있습니다. 그 너울은 그리스도 안에서 제거되기 때문입니다. 오늘날까지도 그들은, 모세의 글을 읽을 때에, 그 마음에 너울이 덮여 있습니다.

But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 그러나, "사람이 주님께로 돌아서면, 그 너울은 벗겨집니다." 주님은 영이십니다. 주님의 영이 계신 곳에는 자유가 있습니다. 우리는 모두 너울을 벗어버리고, 주님의 영광을 바라봅니다. 이렇게 해서, 우리는 주님과 같은 모습으로 변화하여, 점점 더 큰 영광에 이르게 됩니다. 이것은 영이신 주님께서 하시는 일입니다.
