These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron: The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father did, and they had no sons; so Eleazar and Ithamar served as the priests. With the help of Zadok a descendant of Eleazar and Ahimelech a descendant of Ithamar, David separated them into divisions for their appointed order of ministering. A larger number of leaders were found among Eleazar's descendants than among Ithamar's, and they were divided accordingly: sixteen heads of families from Eleazar's descendants and eight heads of families from Ithamar's descendants. They divided them impartially by drawing lots, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. 아론 자손의 갈래는 다음과 같다. 아론의 아들은 나답과 아비후와 엘르아살과 이다말이다. 나답과 아비후는, 아버지보다 먼저 죽었다. 그들에게는 아들이 없었으므로, 엘르아살과 이다말이 제사장이 되었다. 다윗은, 엘르아살의 자손 사독과 이다말의 자손 아히멜렉과 함께 아론 자손의 갈래를 만들어서, 그들이 할 일에 따라 직무를 맡겼다. 엘르아살 자손 가운데서 족장이 될 만한 사람이 이다말 자손에서보다 더 많았으므로, 엘르아살 자손을 그 가문을 따라 열여섯 명의 족장으로, 그리고 이다말 자손은 그 가문을 따라 여덟 명의 족장으로 나누었다. 성전에서 하나님의 일을 할 지도자들이 엘르아살 자손과 이다말 자손 가운데 모두 다 있으므로, 이 두 가문을 제비 뽑아, 공평하게 갈래를 나누었다.

The scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officials: Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites--one family being taken from Eleazar and then one from Ithamar. This was their appointed order of ministering when they entered the temple of the LORD, according to the regulations prescribed for them by their forefather Aaron, as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded him. They also cast lots, just as their brothers the descendants of Aaron did, in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same as those of the youngest. 이들도 그들의 친족인 아론 자손과 마찬가지로, 다윗 왕과 사독과 아히멜렉과 제사장과 레위 사람 가문의 족장 앞에서 제비를 뽑았다. 가문의 종가이든 가장 작은 집이든, 공평하게 제비를 뽑았다.
