여호수아 11장

 

When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Acshaph, and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west; to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah. They came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots--a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore. All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom, to fight against Israel. 하솔 왕 야빈이 이 소식을 듣고, 마돈 왕 요밥과 시므론의 왕과 악삽의 왕과, 북방 산간지방과 긴네롯 남쪽 아라바와 평지와 서쪽으로 도르의 높은 지역에 사는 왕들과, 동서쪽의 가나안 사람과 아모리 사람과 헷 사람과 브리스 사람과 산간지방의 여부스 사람과 미스바 땅의 헤르몬 산 밑에 사는 히위 사람의 왕들에게 전갈을 보냈다. 이 왕들이 자기들의 군대를 모두 출동시켰는데, 그 군인의 수효가 마치 바닷가의 모래와 같이 많고, 말과 병거도 셀 수 없이 많았다. 이 왕들이 모두 만날 장소를 정하고, 이스라엘과 싸우려고 나와서, 메롬 물 가에 함께 진을 쳤다.

The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, because by this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over to Israel, slain. You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots." So Joshua and his whole army came against them suddenly at the Waters of Merom and attacked them, and the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel. They defeated them and pursued them all the way to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth Maim, and to the Valley of Mizpah on the east, until no survivors were left. Joshua did to them as the LORD had directed: He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots. At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword. (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.) 그 때에 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "그들 앞에서 두려워하지 말아라. 내일 이맘 때에 내가 그들을 이스라엘 앞에서 다 죽이겠다. 너는 그들의 말 뒷발의 힘줄을 끊고, 그들의 병거를 불태워라." 여호수아는 자기를 따르는 모든 군인과 더불어 갑작스럽게 메롬 물 가로 들이닥쳐서, 그들을 덮쳤다. 주님께서 그들을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨 주셨기 때문에, 이스라엘은 그들을 무찌르고, 큰 시돈과 미스르봇마임과, 동쪽으로 미스바 골짜기까지 추격하고, 살아 남은 사람이 한 사람도 없을 때까지 그들을 쳐서 죽였다. 여호수아는 주님께서 자기에게 명하신 대로 하여, 그들의 말 뒷발의 힘줄을 끊고 그들의 병거를 불살랐다. 그 때에 여호수아는 돌아서서 하솔을 점령하고, 그 왕을 칼로 쳤다. 그 때만 하여도 하솔은, 이들 왕국들 가운데에서 가장 강한 나라였다.

Everyone in it they put to the sword. They totally destroyed them, not sparing anything that breathed, and he burned up Hazor itself. Joshua took all these royal cities and their kings and put them to the sword. He totally destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded. Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds--except Hazor, which Joshua burned. The Israelites carried off for themselves all the plunder and livestock of these cities, but all the people they put to the sword until they completely destroyed them, not sparing anyone that breathed. As the LORD commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua did it; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses. 그 하솔 성 안에 있는 모든 사람을, 전멸시켜서 바치는 희생제물로 삼아 칼로 쳤고, 호흡이 있는 사람은 하나도 남겨 두지 않았으며, 그 성은 불질렀다. 여호수아는 이 모든 왕의 도성을 점령하고, 그 왕들을 모두 잡아 칼로 쳐서, 주님의 종 모세의 명령을 따라 그들을 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바쳤다. 그러나 이스라엘 사람들은, 여호수아가 불태운 하솔을 제외하고는, 언덕 위에 세운 성들을 하나도 불태우지 않았다. 이 성들에서 탈취한 노략물과 가축은 이스라엘 자손이 모두 차지하였고, 사람들만 칼로 쳐서 모두 죽이고, 숨쉬는 사람은 한 사람도 남겨 두지 않았다. 모세는 주님께서 자기에게 명하신 대로 여호수아에게 명하였고, 여호수아는 그대로 실행하여, 주님께서 모세에게 명하신 것 가운데서 실행하지 않고 남겨 둔 것은 하나도 없었다.

So Joshua took this entire land: the hill country, all the Negev, the whole region of Goshen, the western foothills, the Arabah and the mountains of Israel with their foothills, from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, to Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death. Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time. Except for the Hivites living in Gibeon, not one city made a treaty of peace with the Israelites, who took them all in battle. For it was the LORD himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the LORD had commanded Moses. 이렇게 여호수아는 이 모든 땅 곧 산간지방과 네겝 지방과 모든 고센 땅과 평지와 아라바와 이스라엘의 산간지방과 평지를 다 점령하였다. 그리고 세일로 올라가서, 할락 산에서부터 헤르몬 산 아래 레바논 계곡에 있는 바알갓까지, 모든 왕을 사로잡아서 쳐죽였다. 여호수아는 여러 날 동안 이 모든 왕과 싸웠다. 기브온 주민인 히위 사람 말고는 이스라엘 자손과 화친한 성읍 주민이 하나도 없었다. 나머지 성읍은 이스라엘이 싸워서 모두 점령하였다. 여호수아가 이들 원주민을 조금도 불쌍하게 여기지 않고 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바친 까닭은, 주님께서 그 원주민들이 고집을 부리게 하시고, 이스라엘에 대항하여 싸우다가 망하도록 하셨기 때문이다. 그래서 여호수아는, 주님께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로, 그들을 전멸시킨 것이다.

At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites from the hill country: from Hebron, Debir and Anab, from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua totally destroyed them and their towns. No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod did any survive. So Joshua took the entire land, just as the LORD had directed Moses, and he gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal divisions. Then the land had rest from war. 그 때에 여호수아가 가서, 산간지방과 헤브론과 드빌과 아납과 유다의 온 산간지방과 이스라엘의 온 산간지방에서 아낙 사람을 무찌르고, 그 성읍들을 전멸시켜서 희생제물로 바쳤다. 이스라엘 자손의 땅에서는, 오직 가사와 가드와 아스돗을 제외하고는, 아낙 사람으로서 살아 남은 사람이 하나도 없었다. 여호수아는, 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하신 대로, 모든 땅을 점령하고, 그것을 이스라엘 지파의 구분을 따라 유산으로 주었다. 그래서 그 땅에서는 전쟁이 그치고, 사람들은 평화를 누리게 되었다.
