갈라디아서 4장

What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. 내가 또 말합니다. 유업을 이을 사람은 모든 것의 주인이지만, 어릴 때에는 종과 다름이 없고, 아버지가 정해 놓은 그 때까지는 보호자와 관리인의 지배 아래에 있습니다. 이와 같이, 우리도 어릴 때에는, 세상의 유치한 교훈 아래에서 종노릇을 하였습니다. 그러나 기한이 찼을 때에, 하나님께서는 자기 아들을 보내셔서, 여자에게서 나게 하시고, 또한 율법 아래에 놓이게 하셨습니다. 그것은 율법 아래에 있는 사람들을 속량하시고, 우리로 하여금 자녀의 자격을 얻게 하시려는 것이었습니다.

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God--or rather are known by God--how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 그런데 여러분은 자녀이므로, 하나님께서 그 아들의 영을 우리의 마음에 보내 주셔서 우리가 하나님을 "아빠, 아버지"라고 부를 수 있게 하셨습니다. 그러므로 여러분 각 사람은 이제 종이 아니라 자녀입니다. 자녀이면, 하나님께서 세워 주신 상속자이기도 합니다. 그런데 전에는 여러분이 하나님을 알지 못해서, 본디 하나님이 아닌 것들에게 종노릇을 하였지만, 지금은, 여러분이 하나님을 알 뿐만 아니라, 하나님께서 여러분을 알아주셨습니다. 그런데 어찌하여 그 무력하고 천하고 유치한 교훈으로 되돌아가서, 또다시 그것들에게 종노릇 하려고 합니까? 여러분이 날과 달과 계절과 해를 지키고 있으니,

I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you. I plead with you, brothers, become like me, for I became like you. You have done me no wrong. As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you. Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. What has happened to all your joy? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. 내가 여러분을 위하여 수고한 것이 헛될까 염려됩니다. 형제자매 여러분, 내가 여러분과 같이 되었으니, 여러분도 나와 같이 되기를 바랍니다. 여러분이 내게 해를 입힌 일은 없습니다. 그리고 여러분이 아시는 바와 같이, 내가 여러분에게 처음으로 복음을 전하게 된 것은, 내 육체가 병든 것이 그 계기가 되었습니다. 그리고 내 몸에는 여러분에게 시험이 될 만한 것이 있는데도, 여러분은 나를 멸시하지도 않고, 외면하지도 않았습니다. 여러분은 나를 하나님의 천사와 같이, 그리스도 예수와 같이 영접해 주었습니다. 그런데 여러분의 그 감격이 지금은 어디에 있습니까? 나는 여러분에게 증언합니다. 여러분은 할 수만 있었다면, 여러분의 눈이라도 빼어서 내게 주었을 것입니다.

Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth? Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may be zealous for them. It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always and not just when I am with you. My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you! 그런데 내가 여러분에게 진실을 말하기 때문에 여러분의 원수가 되었습니까? 위에서 내가 말한 사람들이 여러분에게 열심을 내는 것은 좋은 뜻으로 하는 것이 아니라, 여러분을 내게서 떼어놓아서, 여러분으로 하여금 자기네들을 열심히 따르게 하려고 하는 것입니다. 그런데 그들이 좋은 뜻으로 여러분에게 열심을 낸다면, 그것은, 내가 여러분과 함께 있을 때뿐만 아니라, 언제든지 좋은 일입니다. 나의 자녀 여러분, 나는 여러분 속에 그리스도의 형상이 이루어지기까지 다시 해산의 고통을 겪습니다. 이제라도 내가 여러분을 만나 어조를 부드럽게 바꾸어서 말할 수 있으면 좋겠습니다. 나는 여러분의 일을 어떻게 하면 좋을지 당황하고 있습니다.

Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. His son by the slave woman was born in the ordinary way; but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a promise. These things may be taken figuratively, for the women represent two covenants. one covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 율법 아래에 있기를 바라는 사람들이여, 나에게 말해 보십시오. 여러분은 율법이 말하는 것을 듣지 못합니까? 아브라함에게 두 아들이 있었는데, 한 사람은 여종에게서 태어나고 한 사람은 종이 아닌 본처에게서 태어났다고 기록되어 있습니다. 여종에게서 난 아들은 육신을 따라 태어나고, 본처에게서 난 아들은 약속을 따라 태어났습니다. 이것은 비유로 표현한 것입니다. 그 두 여자는 두 가지 언약을 가리킵니다. 한 사람은 시내 산에서 나서 종이 될 사람을 낳은 하갈입니다. '하갈'이라 하는 것은 아라비아에 있는 시내 산을 뜻하는데, 지금의 예루살렘에 해당합니다. 지금의 예루살렘은 그 주민과 함께 종노릇을 하고 있습니다.

But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written: "Be glad, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have no labor pains; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband." Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. At that time the son born in the ordinary way persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. But what does the Scripture say? "Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman's son." 그러나 하늘에 있는 예루살렘은 종이 아닌 여자이며, 우리의 어머니입니다. 성경에 기록하기를, "아이를 낳지 못하는 여자여, 즐거워하여라. 해산의 고통을 모르는 여자여, 소리를 높여서 외쳐라. 홀로 사는 여자의 자녀가 남편을 둔 여자의 자녀보다 더 많을 것이다" 하였습니다. 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 이삭과 같이 약속의 자녀들입니다. 그러나 그 때에 육신을 따라 난 사람이 성령을 따라 난 사람을 박해한 것과 같이, 지금도 그러합니다. 그런데 성경은 무엇이라고 말합니까. "여종과 그 아들을 내쫓아라. 여종의 아들은 절대로, 종이 아닌 본처의 아들과 함께 유업을 받지 못할 것이다" 하였습니다.

Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman. 그러므로 형제자매 여러분, 우리는 여종의 자녀가 아니라, 자유를 가진 여자의 자녀입니다.
