(기침, 열, 콧물은 감기의 증상들이다.) I have a shooting pain on my right side. * shooting pain (acute pain): 찌릿찌릿 아픈 통증 * dull pain: 둔통. 무지근하게 느껴지는 통증 ** Where do you hurt? (어디가 아프십니까?)라는 의사의 질문에, 통증이 있는 부위를 이렇게 설명한다. lower right side (오른쪽 아랫부분이요) upper left side (왼쪽 윗부분이요.). * Do you have a fever? * fever n.) 열, 열병 ** fever는 미국식 표현이며, 영국에서는 temperature를 쓴다. e.g.) Is your temperature high? * I can hardly breathe because it hurts so much. => I’m having trouble breathing. * I think you’re passing a kidney stone. * a kidney stone: 신장 결석 an operation to remove kidney stones (신장 결석 제거 수술) * Are you allergic to any medication? => Do you have any allergies to any medication? e.g.) I’m allergic to aspirin / penicillin / the flu shot. (나는 아스피린 / 페니실린 / 감기예방 주사에 알레르기가 있어요.) * I’ll give you a painkiller. * painkiller n.) 진통제 <<< Dialogue >>> Doctor: What’s wrong? Patient: I’m in terrible pain. Doctor: Describe your symptoms. Patient: I have a shooting pain on my right side. Doctor: Do you have a fever? Patient: I don’t think so. But I can hardly breathe because it hurts so much. Doctor: I think you’re passing a kidney stone. Patient: Are you serious? Doctor: Yup. Are you allergic to any medication? Patient: only aspirin. Doctor: I’ll give you a pain killer. That should make you feel better. Patient: What do I do after the pain goes away? Doctor: Drink plenty of water! [해석] Doctor: 어디가 불편하세요? Patient: 너무 심하게 아프네요. Doctor: 증상을 말씀해 보세요. Patient: 오른쪽에 찌릿찌릿한 통증이 있어요. Doctor: 열도 있습니까? Patient: 그런 것 같진 않아요. 하지만 통증 때문에 거의 숨도 못 쉬겠어요. Doctor: 제 생각엔 신장결석인 듯 합니다. Patient: 진짜요? Doctor: 넵. 의약품에 알러지가 있습니까? Patient: 아스피린에만요. Doctor: 진통제를 드리겠습니다. 좀 나아지실 겁니다. Patient: 통증이 사라지고 나면 어떻게 해야 하죠? Doctor: 물을 많이 마시도록 하세요.
