잠언 11장

 

The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delight. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness. 속이는 저울은 주님께서 미워하셔도, 정확한 저울추는 주님께서 기뻐하신다. 교만한 사람에게는 수치가 따르지만, 겸손한 사람에게는 지혜가 따른다. 정직한 사람은 성실하게 살아, 바른길로 가지만, 사기꾼은 속임수를 쓰다가 제 꾀에 빠져 멸망한다. 재물은 진노의 날에 쓸모가 없지만, 의리는 죽을 사람도 건져낸다. 흠 없는 사람은 그의 옳은 행실로 그가 사는 길을 곧게 하지만, 악한 사람은 자신의 악 때문에 쓰러진다.

The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires. When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing. The righteous man is rescued from trouble, and it comes on the wicked instead. With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape. When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy. 정직한 사람의 옳은 행실은 그를 구원하지만, 반역하는 사람은 제 욕심에 걸려 넘어진다. 악인은 죽을 때에 그들의 희망도 함께 끊어지고, 불의에 걸었던 기대도 물거품이 된다. 의인은 재난에 빠져도 구원을 받지만, 악인은 오히려 재난 속으로 빠져들어간다. 하나님을 경외하지 않는 사람은 입으로 이웃을 망하게 하지만, 의인은 지식으로 구원을 얻는다. 의인이 잘 되면 마을이 기뻐하고, 악인이 망하면 마을이 환호한다.

Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed. A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret. For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure. He who puts up security for another will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe. 정직한 사람이 축복하면 마을이 흥하고, 악한 사람이 입을 열면 마을이 망한다. 지혜가 없는 사람은 이웃을 비웃지만, 명철한 사람은 침묵을 지킨다. 험담하며 돌아다니는 사람은 남의 비밀을 새게 하지만, 마음이 믿음직한 사람은 비밀을 지킨다. 지도자가 없으면 백성이 망하지만, 참모가 많으면 평안을 누린다. 모르는 사람의 보증을 서면 고통을 당하지만, 보증 서기를 거절하면 안전하다.

A kindhearted woman gains respect, but ruthless men gain only wealth. A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself. The wicked man earns deceptive wages, but he who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. The truly righteous man attains life, but he who pursues evil goes to his death. The LORD detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those whose ways are blameless. 덕이 있는 여자는 존경을 받고, 부지런한 남자는 재물을 얻는다. 인자한 사람은 자기의 생명을 이롭게 하고, 잔인한 사람은 자기의 몸을 해친다. 악인에게 돌아오는 삯은 헛것이지만, 정의를 심는 사람은 참 보상을 받는다. 정의에 굳게 서는 사람은 생명에 이르지만, 악을 따르는 사람은 죽음에 이른다. 주님은 마음이 비뚤어진 사람은 미워하시지만, 올바른 길을 걷는 사람은 기뻐하신다.

Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free. Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion. The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath. One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. 악인은 틀림없이 벌을 받지만, 의인의 자손은 반드시 구원을 받는다. 아름다운 여인이 삼가지 아니하는 것은 돼지코에 금고리 격이다. 의인이 바라는 것은 좋은 일뿐이지만, 악인이 기대할 것은 진노뿐이다. 남에게 나누어 주는데도 더욱 부유해지는 사람이 있는가 하면, 마땅히 쓸 것까지 아끼는데도 가난해지는 사람이 있다. 남에게 베풀기를 좋아하는 사람이 부유해 지고, 남에게 마실 물을 주면, 자신도 갈증을 면한다.

People curse the man who hoards grain, but blessing crowns him who is willing to sell. He who seeks good finds goodwill, but evil comes to him who searches for it. Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. He who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise. 곡식을 저장하여 두기만 하는 사람은 백성에게 저주를 받고, 그것을 내어 파는 사람에게는 복이 돌아온다. 좋은 일을 애써 찾으면 은총을 받지만, 나쁜 일을 애써 추구하면 나쁜 것을 되받는다. 자기의 재산만을 믿는 사람은 넘어지지만, 의인은 푸른 나뭇잎처럼 번성한다. 자기 집을 해치는 사람은 바람만 물려받을 것이요, 어리석은 사람은 마음이 지혜로운 사람의 종이 될 것이다. 의인이 받는 열매는 생명의 나무요, 폭력을 쓰는 사람은 생명을 잃는다.

If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner! 의인이 이 땅에서 한 대로 보상을 받는데, 악인과 죄인이 그 값을 치르지 않겠는가?
