열왕기상 9장

 

When Solomon had finished building the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do, the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. The LORD said to him: "I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there. "As for you, if you walk before me in integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, 'You shall never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.' 솔로몬이 주님의 성전과 왕궁 짓는 일과, 자기가 이루고 싶어 한 모든 것을 끝마치니, 주님께서는, 기브온에서 나타나신 것과 같이, 두 번째로 솔로몬에게 나타나셔서, 그에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 나에게 한 기도와 간구를 내가 들었다. 그러므로 나는 네가 내 이름을 영원토록 기리려고 지은 이 성전을 거룩하게 구별하였다. 따라서 내 눈길과 마음이 항상 이 곳에 있을 것이다. 너는 내 앞에서 네 아버지 다윗처럼 살아라. 그리하여 내가 네게 명한 것을 실천하고, 내가 네게 준 율례와 규례를 온전한 마음으로 올바르게 지켜라. 그리하면 내가 네 아버지 다윗에게, 이스라엘의 왕좌에 앉을 사람이 그에게서 끊어지지 아니할 것이라고 약속한 대로, 이스라엘을 다스릴 네 왕좌를, 영원히 지켜 주겠다.

"But if you or your sons turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples. And though this temple is now imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?' People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them--that is why the LORD brought all this disaster on them.' " At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built these two buildings--the temple of the LORD and the royal palace- 그러나 너와 네 자손이 나를 따르지 아니하고 등을 돌리거나, 내가 네게 일러준 내 계명과 율례를 지키지 아니하고, 곁길로 나아가서, 다른 신들을 섬겨 그들을 숭배하면, 나는, 내가 준 그 땅에서 이스라엘을 끊어 버릴 것이고, 내 이름을 기리도록 거룩하게 구별한 성전을 외면하겠다. 그러면 이스라엘은 모든 민족 사이에서, 한낱 속담거리가 되고, 웃음거리가 되고 말 것이다. 이 성전이 한때 아무리 존귀하게 여김을 받았다고 하더라도, 이 곳을 지나가는 사람마다 놀랄 것이고 '어찌하여 주님께서 이 땅과 이 성전을 이렇게 되게 하셨을까?' 하고 탄식할 것이다. 그러면서 그들은 '이스라엘 백성이 자기들의 조상을 이집트 땅으로부터 이끌어 내신 주 그들의 하나님을 버리고, 다른 신들에게 미혹되어, 그 신들에게 절하여 그 신들을 섬겼으므로, 주님께서 이 온갖 재앙을 그들에게 내리셨다' 하고 말할 것이다." 솔로몬은, 주님의 성전과 왕궁, 이 두 건물을 다 짓는 데 스무 해가 걸렸다.

King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had supplied him with all the cedar and pine and gold he wanted. But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them. "What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?" he asked. And he called them the Land of Cabul, a name they have to this day. Now Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents of gold. Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the LORD's temple, his own palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer. 두로의 히람 왕이 백향목과 잣나무와 금을, 솔로몬이 원하는 대로 모두 보내왔으므로, 솔로몬 왕은 갈릴리 땅에 있는 성읍 스무 개를 히람에게 주었다. 히람이 두로에서부터 와서, 솔로몬이 그에게 준 성읍을 보았는데, 그 성들이 마음에 차지 않아서, "나의 형제여, 그대가 나에게 준 성읍들이 겨우 이런 것들이오?" 하고 말하였다. 그래서 오늘날까지 그 곳을 가불의 땅이라고 한다. 사실 이 일이 있기 전에, 히람이 솔로몬 왕에게 보낸 금액은 금 백이십 달란트나 되었다. 솔로몬 왕이 강제 노역꾼을 동원할 수밖에 없었던 까닭은, 주님의 성전과 자기의 궁전과 밀로 궁과 예루살렘 성벽을 쌓고, 하솔과 므깃도와 게셀의 성을 재건하는 데, 필요하였기 때문이다.

(Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire. He killed its Canaanite inhabitants and then gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon's wife. And Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon, Baalath, and Tadmor in the desert, within his land, as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses --whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled. All the people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these peoples were not Israelites), （이집트 왕 바로가 올라와서, 게셀을 점령하여 불로 태워 버린 일이 있었다. 그는 그 성 안에 살고 있는 가나안 사람들을 살해하고, 그 성을 솔로몬의 아내가 된 자기의 딸에게 결혼 지참금으로 주었다. 그래서 솔로몬은 게셀을 재건하였다.） 솔로몬은 강제 노역꾼을 동원하여서, 낮은 지대에 있는 벳호론을 재건하였다. 또 바알랏과 유다 광야에 있는 다드몰을 세웠다. 그리고 솔로몬은 자기에게 속한 모든 양곡 저장 성읍들과 병거 주둔 성읍들과 기병 주둔 성읍들을 세웠다. 그래서 솔로몬은 예루살렘과 레바논과, 그가 다스리는 모든 지역 안에, 그가 계획한 것을 다 만들었다. 이스라엘 자손이 아닌 아모리 사람과 헷 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람 가운데서 살아 남은 백성이 있었다.

that is, their descendants remaining in the land, whom the Israelites could not exterminate --these Solomon conscripted for his slave labor force, as it is to this day. But Solomon did not make slaves of any of the Israelites; they were his fighting men, his government officials, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his chariots and charioteers. They were also the chief officials in charge of Solomon's projects--550 officials supervising the men who did the work. After Pharaoh's daughter had come up from the City of David to the palace Solomon had built for her, he constructed the supporting terraces. Three times a year Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense before the LORD along with them, and so fulfilled the temple obligations. 솔로몬은 그들을 노예로 삼아서, 강제 노역에 동원하였다. 그들은, 이스라엘 자손이 다 진멸할 수 없어서 그 땅에 그대로 남겨 둔 백성들이었다. 그래서 그들은 오늘날까지도 노예로 남아 있다. 그러나 솔로몬은, 이스라엘 사람 가운데서는, 어느 누구도 노예로 삼지 않았다. 이스라엘 사람은 군인, 신하, 군사령관, 관리 병거대 지휘관, 기병대원이 되었다. 솔로몬의 일을 지휘한 관리 책임자들은 오백오십 명이다. 그들은 작업장에서 일하는 백성을 감독하는 사람들이다. 바로의 딸은 다윗 성에서 올라와서, 솔로몬이 지어 준 자기의 궁으로 갔다. 그 때에 솔로몬이 밀로 궁을 완공하였다. 솔로몬은, 한 해에 세 번씩 주님의 제단에서 번제물과 화목제물을 드리고, 또 주님 앞에서 분향하였다. 이렇게 그는 성전 짓는 일을 완수하였다.

King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea. And Hiram sent his men--sailors who knew the sea--to serve in the fleet with Solomon's men. They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon. 솔로몬 왕은 또 에돔 땅 홍해변 엘롯 근방에 있는 에시온게벨에서 배를 만들었다. 히람은 자기 신하 가운데서 바다를 잘 아는 뱃사람들을 보내서, 솔로몬의 신하들을 돕게 하였다. 그들이 오빌에 이르러, 거기서 사백이십 달란트의 금을 솔로몬 왕에게로 가져 왔다.
