Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the LORD's covenant from Zion, the City of David. All the men of Israel came together to King Solomon at the time of the festival in the month of Ethanim, the seventh month. When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark, and they brought up the ark of the LORD and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests and Levites carried them up, and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted. 솔로몬은 주님의 언약궤를 시온 곧 '다윗 성'에서 성전으로 옮기려고, 이스라엘 장로들과 이스라엘 자손의 각 가문의 대표인 온 지파의 지도자들을 예루살렘에 있는 자기 앞으로 불러모았다. 이스라엘의 모든 남자는, 일곱째 달 곧 에다님월의 절기에, 솔로몬 왕 앞으로 모였다. 이스라엘의 모든 장로가 모이니, 제사장들이 궤를 메어 옮겼다. 주님의 궤와 회막과 장막 안에 있는 거룩한 기구를 모두 옮겨 왔는데, 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 그것을 날랐다. 솔로몬 왕과 왕 앞에 모인 온 이스라엘 회중이 왕과 함께 궤 앞에서, 양과 소를, 셀 수도 없고 기록할 수도 없을 만큼 많이 잡아서 제물로 바쳤다.

The priests then brought the ark of the LORD's covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles. These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today. There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt. When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD. 제사장들은 주님의 언약궤를 제자리 곧 성전 내실 지성소 안, 그룹들의 날개 아래에 가져다가 놓았다. 그룹들이, 궤가 놓인 자리에 날개를 펼쳐서, 궤와 채를 덮게 하였다. 궤에서 삐죽 나온 두 개의 채는 길어서, 그 끝이 지성소의 정면에 있는 성소에서도 보였다. 그러나 성소 밖에서는 보이지 않았다. （그 채는 오늘날까지 그 곳에 그대로 놓여 있다.） 궤 속에는 호렙에서 모세가 넣어 둔 두 개의 돌판 말고는, 아무것도 없었다. 이 두 돌판은, 이스라엘 자손이 이집트 땅에서 나온 뒤에, 주님께서 호렙에서 그들과 언약을 세우실 때에, 모세가 거기에 넣은 것이다. 제사장들이 성소에서 나올 때에, 주님의 성전에 구름이 가득 찼다.

And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple. Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever." While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them. Then he said: "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, 주님의 영광이 주님의 성전을 가득 채워서, 구름이 자욱하였으므로, 제사장들은 서서 일을 볼 수가 없었다. 그런 가운데 솔로몬이 주님께 아뢰었다. 'Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built for my Name to be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.' "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood--he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.' "The LORD has kept the promise he made: I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. '내가 내 백성 이스라엘을 이집트에서 이끌어 낸 날로부터 오늘에 이르기까지, 내가 내 이름을 기릴 집을 지으려고, 이스라엘의 어느 지파에서 어느 성읍을 택한 일이 없다. 다만, 다윗을 택하여서 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였다' 하셨습니다. 내 아버지 다윗께서는 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 이름을 기릴 성전을 지으려고 생각하셨으나, 주님께서 나의 아버지 다윗에게 이르시기를 '네가 내 이름을 기릴 성전을 지으려는 마음을 품은 것은 아주 좋은 일이다. 그런데 그 집을 지을 사람은 네가 아니다. 네 몸에서 태어날 네 아들이 내 이름을 기릴 성전을 지을 것이다' 하셨습니다. 주님께서 말씀하신 대로, 아버지 다윗의 뒤를 이어서, 이렇게 내가 이스라엘의 왕위를 이었으며, 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 이름을 기릴 이 성전을 지었으니, 주님께서는 이제 그 약속을 이루셨습니다.

I have provided a place there for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with our fathers when he brought them out of Egypt." Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven and said: "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below--you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it--as it is today. "Now LORD, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, 'You shall never fail to have a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons are careful in all they do to walk before me as you have done.' 주님께서는 이집트 땅에서 우리의 조상을 이끌어 내실 때에, 그들과 언약을 세우셨는데, 나는 주님의 언약이 들어 있는 궤를 놓아 둘 장소를, 이렇게 마련하였습니다." 그런 다음에 솔로몬은, 이스라엘 온 회중이 보는 데서, 주님의 제단 앞에 서서 하늘을 바라보면서, 두 팔을 들어서 펴고, 이렇게 기도하였다. And now, O God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David my father come true. "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built! Yet give attention to your servant's prayer and his plea for mercy, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day. May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said, 'My Name shall be there,' so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place. Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive. 그러므로 이제 이스라엘의 하나님, 주님의 종인 제 아버지 다윗 임금에게 약속하신 말씀을 주님께서 이루어 주시기를 빕니다. 그러나 하나님, 하나님께서 땅 위에 계시기를, 우리가 어찌 바라겠습니까? 저 하늘, 저 하늘 위의 하늘이라도 주님을 모시기에 부족할 터인데, 제가 지은 이 성전이야 더 말하여 무엇 하겠습니까? 그러나 주 나의 하나님, 주님의 종이 드리는 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며, 오늘 주님의 종이 주님 앞에서 부르짖으면서 드리는 이 기도를 들어주십시오. 주님께서 밤낮으로 눈을 뜨시고, 이 성전을 살펴 주십시오. 이 곳은 주님께서 '내 이름이 거기에 있을 것이다' 하고 말씀하신 곳입니다. 주님의 종이 이 곳을 바라보면서 기도할 때에, 이 종의 기도를 들어주십시오. 그리고 주님의 종인 나와 주님의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 바라보며 기도할 때에, 그 기도를 들어주십시오. 주님께서 계시는 곳, 하늘에서 들으시고, 들으시는 대로 용서해 주십시오.

"When a man wrongs his neighbor and is required to take an oath and he comes and swears the oath before your altar in this temple, then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty and bringing down on his own head what he has done. Declare the innocent not guilty, and so establish his innocence. "When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and confess your name, praying and making supplication to you in this temple, then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to their fathers. "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and confess your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them, 사람이 이웃에게 죄를 짓고, 맹세를 하게 되어, 그가 이 성전 안에 있는 주님의 제단 앞에 나와서 맹세를 하거든, 주님께서는 하늘에서 들으시고 주님의 종들을 심판하시되, 악행을 저지른 사람은 죄가 있다고 판결하셔서 벌을 주시고, 옳은 일을 한 사람은 죄가 없다고 판결하셔서 옳음을 밝혀 주십시오. 주님의 백성 이스라엘이 주님께 죄를 지어 적에게 패배하였다가도, 그들이 뉘우치고 주님께로 돌아와서, 주님의 이름을 인정하고, 이 성전에서 주님께 빌며 간구하거든, 주님께서는 하늘에서 들으시고, 주님의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 용서해 주십시오. 그리고 그들의 조상에게 주신 땅으로, 그들을 다시 돌아오게 해주십시오. 또 그들이 주님께 죄를 지어서, 그 벌로 주님께서 하늘을 닫고 비를 내려 주시지 않을 때에라도, 그들이 이 곳을 바라보며 기도하고, 주님의 이름을 인정하고, 그 죄에서 돌이키거든,

then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance. "When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by any of your people Israel--each one aware of the afflictions of his own heart, and spreading out his hands toward this temple- then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of all men), so that they will fear you all the time they live in the land you gave our fathers. 주님께서 하늘에서 들으시고, 주님의 종들과 주님의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 용서해 주시고, 그들이 살아갈 올바른 길을 그들에게 가르쳐 주시며, 주님의 백성에게 유산으로 주신 주님의 땅에 비를 다시 내려 주십시오. 이 땅에서 기근이 들거나, 역병이 돌거나, 곡식이 시들거나, 깜부기가 나거나, 메뚜기 떼나 누리 떼가 곡식을 갉아먹거나, 적들이 이 땅으로 쳐들어와서 성읍들 가운데 어느 하나를 에워싸거나, 온갖 재앙이 내리거나, 온갖 전염병이 번질 때에, 주님의 백성 이스라엘 가운데 어느 한 사람이나 혹은 주님의 백성 전체가, 재앙이 닥쳤다는 것을 마음에 깨닫고, 이 성전을 바라보며 두 팔을 펴고 간절히 기도하거든, 주님께서는, 주님께서 계시는 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 판단하셔서, 그들을 용서해 주십시오. 주님께서는 각 사람의 마음을 아시니, 주님께서 각 사람에게 그 행위대로 갚아 주십시오. 주님만이 모든 사람의 마음을 아십니다. 그렇게 하시면, 그들은, 주님께서 우리의 조상에게 주신 이 땅 위에서 사는 동안, 주님을 경외할 것입니다.

"As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name- for men will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm--when he comes and prays toward this temple, then hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name. "When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the LORD toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name, then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. 그리고 또 주님의 백성 이스라엘에 속하지 아니한 이방인이라도, 주님의 크신 이름을 듣고, 먼 곳에서 이리로 오면, 그들이야말로 주님의 큰 명성을 듣고, 또 주님께서 강한 손과 편 팔로 하신 일을 전하여 듣고, 이 곳으로 와서, 이 성전을 바라보면서 기도하거든, 주님께서는, 주님께서 계시는 곳 하늘에서 들으시고, 그 이방인이 주님께 부르짖으며 간구하는 것을 그대로 다 들어 주셔서, 땅 위에 있는 모든 백성이 주님의 이름을 알게 하시고, 주님의 백성 이스라엘처럼 주님을 경외하게 하시며, 내가 지은 이 성전이 주님의 이름을 부르는 곳임을 알게 하여 주십시오. 주님의 백성이 적과 싸우려고 전선에 나갈 때에, 주님께서 그들을 어느 곳으로 보내시든지, 그 곳에서, 주님께서 선택하신 이 도성과, 내가 주님의 이름을 기리려고 지은 성전을 바라보며, 그들이 주님께 기도하거든, 주님께서는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고, 그들의 사정을 살펴 보아 주십시오.

"When they sin against you--for there is no one who does not sin--and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to his own land, far away or near; and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their conquerors and say, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly'; and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their fathers, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name; then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their conquerors to show them mercy; 죄를 짓지 아니하는 사람은 없습니다. 이 백성이 주님께 죄를 지어서, 주님께서 진노하셔서 그들을 원수에게 넘겨 주시게 될 때에, 멀든지 가깝든지, 백성이 원수의 땅으로 사로잡혀 가더라도, 그들이 사로잡혀 간 그 땅에서라도, 마음을 돌이켜 회개하고, 그들을 사로잡아 간 사람의 땅에서 주님께 자복하여 이르기를 '우리가 죄를 지었고, 우리가 악행을 저질렀으며, 우리가 반역하였습니다' 하고 기도하거든, 또 그들이 사로잡혀 간 원수의 땅에서라도, 마음을 다하고 정성을 다하여 주님께 회개하고, 주님께서 그들의 조상에게 주신 땅과 주님께서 선택하신 이 도성과 내가 주님의 이름을 기리려고 지은 이 성전을 바라보면서 기도하거든, 주님께서는, 주님께서 계시는 곳인 하늘에서, 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고, 그들의 사정을 살펴 보아 주십시오. 주님께 죄를 지은 주님의 백성을 용서하여 주십시오. 주님을 거역하여 저지른 모든 반역죄까지도 용서하여 주십시오. 그들을 사로잡아 간 사람들 앞에서도 불쌍히 여김을 받게 하셔서, 사로잡아 간 사람들도 그들을 불쌍히 여기게 하여 주십시오.

for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of that iron-smelting furnace. "May your eyes be open to your servant's plea and to the plea of your people Israel, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you. For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, O Sovereign LORD, brought our fathers out of Egypt." When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the LORD, he rose from before the altar of the LORD, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven. He stood and blessed the whole assembly of Israel in a loud voice, saying: 그들은, 주님께서 쇠용광로와 같은 이집트로부터 이끌어 내신 주님의 백성이며, 주님의 소유입니다. 종의 간구와 주님의 백성 이스라엘의 간구를 살펴보시고, 부르짖을 때마다 응답해 주십시오. 주 하나님, 주님께서 우리 조상을 이집트로부터 이끌어 내실 때에, 주님의 종 모세를 시켜서 말씀하신 것과 같이, 주님께서는 그들을 주님의 소유가 되도록, 세상의 모든 백성과 구별하셨습니다." 솔로몬이 무릎을 꿇고서, 하늘을 바라보며, 두 손을 펴고, 이렇게 간절히 기도를 드린 다음, 주님의 제단 앞에서 일어나서, 이스라엘의 온 회중을 바라보며, 큰소리로 축복하여 주었다.

"Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us. May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers. And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day's need, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other. "주님께서, 말씀하신 대로, 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 안식을 주셨으며, 그의 종 모세를 시켜서 하신 선한 말씀을, 한 마디도 빠뜨리지 아니하시고 다 이루어 주셨으니, 주님은 찬양을 받으실 분이십니다. 주 우리의 하나님께서 우리의 조상과 함께 계시던 것과 같이, 우리와도 함께 계시기를 바랍니다. 주님께서 우리를 버리지도 마시고, 포기하지도 마시기를 바랍니다. 우리의 마음을 주님께 기울이게 하셔서, 주님께서 지시하신 그 길을 걷게 하시며, 주님께서 우리 조상에게 내리신 계명과 법도와 율례를 지키게 하여 주시기를 바랍니다. 오늘 주님 앞에 드린 이 간구와 기도를, 주 우리의 하나님께서 낮이나 밤이나 늘 기억해 주시기를 바랍니다. 하나님께서 주님의 종과 주님의 백성 이스라엘에게, 날마다 그 형편에 맞게 자비를 베풀어 주시기를 바랍니다. 그렇게 해서, 세상의 모든 백성이, 주님만이 하나님이시고 다른 신은 없다는 것을, 알게 되기를 바랍니다.

But your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time." Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the LORD. Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the LORD : twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the LORD. On that same day the king consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the LORD, and there he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings. So Solomon observed the festival at that time, and all Israel with him--a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. They celebrated it before the LORD our God for seven days and seven days more, fourteen days in all. 그러므로 그의 백성인 여러분도 주 우리의 하나님과 한 마음이 되어서, 오늘과 같이 주님의 법도대로 걸으며, 주님의 계명을 지키기를 바랍니다." 이렇게 한 다음에, 왕 및 왕과 함께 있는 모든 이스라엘 사람이 주님 앞에 제사를 드렸다. 솔로몬은 화목제를 드렸는데, 그가 주님의 제사에 드린 것은, 소가 이만 이천 마리이고, 양이 십이만 마리였다. 이와 같이 해서, 왕과 이스라엘의 모든 백성이 주님의 성전을 봉헌하였다. 그리고 바로 그 날, 왕은 주님 앞에 있는 놋제단이, 번제물과 곡식제물과 화목제물의 기름기를 담기에는 너무 작았으므로, 주님의 성전 앞뜰 한가운데를 거룩하게 구별하고, 거기에서 번제물과 곡식예물과 화목제의 기름기를 드렸다. 그 때에 솔로몬이 이렇게 절기를 지켰는데, 하맛 어귀에서부터 이집트 접경을 흐르는 강에 이르는 넓은 지역에 사는 큰 회중인 온 이스라엘이 그와 함께, 주 우리의 하나님 앞에서 이레 동안을 두 번씩 열나흘 동안 절기를 지켰다.

On the following day he sent the people away. They blessed the king and then went home, joyful and glad in heart for all the good things the LORD had done for his servant David and his people Israel. 둘째 이레가 끝나고, 여드레째 되는 날에 그가 백성을 돌려보내니, 그들은 왕에게 복을 빌고, 주님께서 그의 종 다윗과 그 백성 이스라엘에게 베푸신 온갖 은혜 때문에 진심으로 기뻐하며, 흐뭇한 마음으로, 각자 자기의 집으로 돌아갔다.
