사무엘하 16장

 

When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit, there was Ziba, the steward of Mephibosheth, waiting to meet him. He had a string of donkeys saddled and loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs and a skin of wine. The king asked Ziba, "Why have you brought these?" Ziba answered, "The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on, the bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the desert." The king then asked, "Where is your master's grandson?" Ziba said to him, "He is staying in Jerusalem, because he thinks, 'Today the house of Israel will give me back my grandfather's kingdom.' " Then the king said to Ziba, "All that belonged to Mephibosheth is now yours." "I humbly bow," Ziba said. "May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king." As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the same clan as Saul's family came out from there. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he cursed as he came out. 다윗이 산꼭대기에서 떠난 지 얼마 안 되어서, 므비보셋의 하인 시바가 와서 그를 맞이하였다. 시바는 나귀 두 마리에 안장을 얹고, 그 위에다가는 빵 이백 개와 건포도 뭉치 백 덩이와 여름 과일 백 개와 포도주 한 가죽부대를 싣고 왔다. 왕이 시바에게 물었다. "네가 무엇 때문에 이것을 가지고 왔느냐?" 시바가 대답하였다. "이 나귀들은 임금님의 가족들이 타고, 빵과 여름 과일은 신하들이 먹고, 포도주는 누구나 광야에서 기진할 때에 마시고, 이렇게 하시라고 가져 왔습니다." 왕이 또 물었다. "그런데, 네가 섬기는 상전의 손자는 지금 어디에 있느냐?" 시바가 왕에게 대답하였다. "그는 지금 예루살렘에 머물러 있습니다. 이제야 이스라엘 사람이 자기 할아버지의 나라를 자기에게 되돌려 준다고 생각하고 있습니다." 왕이 시바에게 말하였다. "므비보셋의 재산을 네가 모두 가져라." 시바가 대답하였다. "임금님의 은혜에 감사드립니다. 언제나 임금님의 은총을 입는 몸이 되기를 바랍니다." 다윗 왕이 바후림 마을에 가까이 이르렀을 때에, 갑자기 어떤 사람이 그 마을에서 나왔는데, 그는 사울 집안의 친척인 게라의 아들로서, 이름은 시므이였다. 그는 거기에서 나오면서, 줄곧 저주를 퍼부었다.

He pelted David and all the king's officials with stones, though all the troops and the special guard were on David's right and left. As he cursed, Shimei said, "Get out, get out, you man of blood, you scoundrel! The LORD has repaid you for all the blood you shed in the household of Saul, in whose place you have reigned. The LORD has handed the kingdom over to your son Absalom. You have come to ruin because you are a man of blood!" Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head." But the king said, "What do you and I have in common, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the LORD said to him, 'Curse David,' who can ask, 'Why do you do this?' " 다윗 왕의 모든 부하와 모든 용사가 좌우에 서서 왕을 호위하고 가는데도, 그는 다윗과 그의 모든 신하에게 계속하여 돌을 던졌다. 시므이가 다윗을 저주하여 말하였다. "영영 가거라! 이 피비린내 나는 살인자야! 이 불한당 같은 자야! 네가 사울의 집안사람을 다 죽이고, 그의 나라를 차지하였으나, 이제는 주님께서 그 피 값을 모두 너에게 갚으신다. 이제는 주님께서 이 나라를 너의 아들 압살롬의 손에 넘겨 주셨다. 이런 형벌은 너와 같은 살인자가 마땅히 받아야 할 재앙이다." 그러자 스루야의 아들 아비새가 왕에게 아뢰었다. "죽은 개가 높으신 임금님을 저주하는데, 어찌하여 그냥 보고만 계십니까? 제가 당장 건너가서 그의 머리를 잘라 버리겠습니다." 왕은 대답하였다. "스루야의 아들아, 나의 일에 너희가 왜 나서느냐? 주님께서 그에게, 다윗을 저주하라고 분부하셔서 그가 저주하는 것이라면, 그가 나를 저주한다고, 누가 그를 나무랄 수 있겠느냐?"

David then said to Abishai and all his officials, "My son, who is of my own flesh, is trying to take my life. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone; let him curse, for the LORD has told him to. It may be that the LORD will see my distress and repay me with good for the cursing I am receiving today." So David and his men continued along the road while Shimei was going along the hillside opposite him, cursing as he went and throwing stones at him and showering him with dirt. The king and all the people with him arrived at their destination exhausted. And there he refreshed himself. Meanwhile, Absalom and all the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him. 그런 다음에 다윗이 아비새와 자기의 모든 신하에게 말하였다. "생각하여 보시오. 나의 몸에서 태어난 자식도 나의 목숨을 노리고 있는데, 이러한 때에, 하물며 저 베냐민 사람이야 더 말해 무엇하겠소. 주님께서 그에게 그렇게 하라고 시키신 것이니, 그가 저주하게 내버려 두시오. 혹시 주님께서 나의 이 비참한 모습을 보시고, 오늘 시므이가 한 저주 대신에 오히려 나에게 좋은 것으로 갚아 주실지, 누가 알겠소?" 다윗과 그 부하들은 계속하여 길을 갔다. 그래도 시므이는 여전히 산비탈을 타고 다윗을 따라 오면서 저주하며, 그 곁에서 돌을 던지고, 흙먼지를 뿌렸다. 왕과 그를 따르는 온 백성이 요단 강에 이르렀을 때에, 그들은 매우 지쳤으므로, 거기에서 쉬면서, 기운을 되찾았다. 압살롬은 그를 따르는 이스라엘 백성의 큰 무리를 거느리고 예루살렘으로 입성하였으며, 아히도벨도 그와 함께 들어왔다.

Then Hushai the Arkite, David's friend, went to Absalom and said to him, "Long live the king! Long live the king!" Absalom asked Hushai, "Is this the love you show your friend? Why didn't you go with your friend?" Hushai said to Absalom, "No, the one chosen by the LORD, by these people, and by all the men of Israel--his I will be, and I will remain with him. Furthermore, whom should I serve? Should I not serve the son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you." Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give us your advice. What should we do?" 그 때에 다윗의 친구인 아렉 사람 후새가 압살롬을 찾아와서, 압살롬을 보고, "임금님 만세! 임금님 만세!" 하고 외쳤다. 그러자 압살롬이 후새에게 물었다. "이것이 친구를 대하는 그대의 우정이오? 어찌하여 그대의 친구를 따라서 떠나지 않았소?" 후새가 압살롬에게 대답하였다. "그렇지 않습니다. 오히려 저는, 주님께서 뽑으시고 이 백성과 온 이스라엘 사람이 뽑아 세운 분의 편이 되어서, 그분과 함께 지낼 작정입니다. 제가 다른 누구를 또 섬길 수 있겠습니까? 당연히 부왕의 아드님을 섬겨야 하지 않겠습니까? 그러므로 제가 전에 부왕을 섬긴 것과 같이, 이제는 임금님을 섬기겠습니다." 압살롬이 아히도벨에게 물었다. "이제 우리가 무슨 일부터 해야 될지 의견들을 내어 보시오."

Ahithophel answered, "Lie with your father's concubines whom he left to take care of the palace. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench in your father's nostrils, and the hands of everyone with you will be strengthened." So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he lay with his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel. Now in those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God. That was how both David and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel's advice. 아히도벨이 압살롬에게 말하였다. "부왕이 왕궁을 지키라고 남겨 둔 후궁들과 동침하십시오. 이렇게 임금님께서 부왕에게 미움받을 일을 하였다는 소문을 온 이스라엘이 들으면, 임금님을 따르는 모든 사람이 더욱 힘을 낼 것입니다." 그리하여 사람들이 옥상 위에 압살롬이 들어갈 장막을 차려 주니, 온 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서, 압살롬이 자기 아버지의 후궁들과 동침하였다. 사람들은 아히도벨이 베푸는 모략은, 무엇이든지, 마치 하나님께 여쭈어서 받은 말씀과 꼭 같이 여겼다. 다윗도 그러하였지만, 압살롬도 그러하였다.
