사무엘하 15장

 

In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him. He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision, Absalom would call out to him, "What town are you from?" He would answer, "Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel." Then Absalom would say to him, "Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you." And Absalom would add, "If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that he gets justice." Also, whenever anyone approached him to bow down before him, Absalom would reach out his hand, take hold of him and kiss him. 그 뒤에 압살롬은 자기가 탈 수레와 말 여러 필을 마련하고, 호위병도 쉰 명이나 거느렸다. 그리고 압살롬은 아침마다 일찍 일어나서, 성문으로 들어오는 길 가에 서 있곤 하였다. 그러다가, 소송할 일이 있어서, 판결을 받으려고 왕을 찾아오는 사람이 있으면, 압살롬은 그를 불러서, 어느 성읍에서 오셨느냐고 묻곤 하였다. 그 사람이 자기의 소속 지파를 밝히면, 압살롬은 그에게 "듣고 보니, 다 옳고 정당한 말이지만 그 사정을 대신 말해 줄 사람이 왕에게는 없소" 하고 말하였다. 압살롬은 늘 이런 식으로 말하곤 하였다. 더욱이 압살롬은 이런 말도 하였다. "누가 나를 이 나라의 재판관으로 세워 주기만 하면, 누구든지 소송 문제가 있을 때에 나를 찾아와서 판결을 받을 수가 있을 것이고, 나는 그에게 공정한 판결을 내려 줄 것이오." 또 누가 가까이 와서 엎드려서 절을 하려고 하면, 그는 손을 내밀어서 그를 일으켜 세우고, 그의 뺨에 입을 맞추곤 하였다.

Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the men of Israel. At the end of four years, Absalom said to the king, "Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the LORD. While your servant was living at Geshur in Aram, I made this vow: 'If the LORD takes me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the LORD in Hebron. ' " The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he went to Hebron. Then Absalom sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say, 'Absalom is king in Hebron.' " 압살롬은, 왕에게 판결을 받으려고 오는 모든 이스라엘 사람에게 이런 식으로 하였다. 압살롬은 이렇게 하여 이스라엘 사람의 마음을 사로잡았다. 이렇게 네 해가 지났을 때에 압살롬이 왕에게 아뢰었다. "제가 주님께 서원한 것이 있으니, 헤브론으로 내려가서 저의 서원을 이루게 하여 주십시오. 이 종이 시리아의 그술에 머물 때에, 주님께서 저를 다시 예루살렘으로 돌려보내 주기만 하시면, 제가 헤브론으로 가서 주님께 예배를 드리겠다고 서원을 하였습니다. 왕이 그에게 평안히 다녀오라고 허락하니, 압살롬은 곧바로 헤브론으로 내려갔다. 그러나 압살롬은 이스라엘의 모든 지파에게 첩자들을 보내서, 나팔 소리가 나거든 "압살롬이 헤브론에서 왕이 되었다!" 하고 외치라고 하였다.

Two hundred men from Jerusalem had accompanied Absalom. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter. While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he also sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, to come from Giloh, his hometown. And so the conspiracy gained strength, and Absalom's following kept on increasing. A messenger came and told David, "The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom." Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, "Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin upon us and put the city to the sword." The king's officials answered him, "Your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king chooses." 그 때에 이백 명이 압살롬과 함께 예루살렘에서 헤브론으로 내려갔다. 그들은 손님으로 초청받은 것일 뿐이며, 압살롬의 음모를 전혀 알지 못한 채로, 그저 따라가기만 한 사람들이다. 압살롬은 또 사람을 보내어서, 다윗의 참모이던 길로 사람 아히도벨을 그의 성읍인 길로에서 올라오라고 초청하였다. 아히도벨은 길로에서 정규적인 제사 일을 맡아 보고 있었다. 이렇게 반란 세력이 점점 커지니, 압살롬을 따르는 백성도 점점 더 많아졌다. 전령 한 사람이 다윗에게 와서 보고하였다. "이스라엘 백성의 마음이 모두 압살롬에게로 기울어졌습니다." 그러자 다윗은 예루살렘에 있는 모든 신하에게 말하였다. "서둘러서 모두 여기에서 도망가자. 머뭇거리다가는 아무도 압살롬의 손에서 살아 남지 못할 것이다. 어서 이 곳을 떠나가자. 그가 곧 와서 우리를 따라잡으면, 우리에게도 재앙을 입히고, 이 도성도 칼로 칠 것이다." 왕의 신하들이 왕에게 대답하였다. "모든 일은 임금님께서 결정하신 대로 하시기 바랍니다. 이 종들은 그대로 따르겠습니다."

The king set out, with his entire household following him; but he left ten concubines to take care of the palace. So the king set out, with all the people following him, and they halted at a place some distance away. All his men marched past him, along with all the Kerethites and Pelethites; and all the six hundred Gittites who had accompanied him from Gath marched before the king. The king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why should you come along with us? Go back and stay with King Absalom. You are a foreigner, an exile from your homeland. You came only yesterday. And today shall I make you wander about with us, when I do not know where I am going? Go back, and take your countrymen. May kindness and faithfulness be with you." 왕은 왕궁을 지킬 후궁 열 명만 남겨 놓고, 온 가족을 거느리고 예루살렘을 떠났다. 왕이 먼저 나아가니, 모든 백성이 그의 뒤를 따라 나섰다. 그들은 '먼 궁'에 이르자, 모두 멈추어 섰다. 왕의 신하들이 모두 왕 곁에 서 있는 동안에, 모든 그렛 사람과 모든 블렛 사람이 왕 앞으로 지나가고, 가드에서부터 왕을 따라 온 모든 가드 군인 육백 명도 왕 앞으로 지나갔다. 왕이 가드 사람 잇대에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 장군은 우리와 함께 가려고 하오? 돌아가 있다가, 새 왕을 모시고 지내도록 하시오. 장군은 외국인이기도 하고, 장군의 본 고장을 두고 보더라도, 쫓겨난 사람이니, 그렇게 하시오. 장군이 온 것이 바로 엊그제와 같은데, 오늘 내가 그대를 우리와 함께 떠나게 하여서야 되겠소? 더구나 나는 지금 정처없이 떠나는 사람이 아니오? 어서 장군의 동족을 데리고 돌아가시오. 주님께서 은혜와 진실하심으로 장군과 함께 계셔 주시기를 바라오."

But Ittai replied to the king, "As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be." David said to Ittai, "Go ahead, march on." So Ittai the Gittite marched on with all his men and the families that were with him. The whole countryside wept aloud as all the people passed by. The king also crossed the Kidron Valley, and all the people moved on toward the desert. Zadok was there, too, and all the Levites who were with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. They set down the ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until all the people had finished leaving the city. Then the king said to Zadok, "Take the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the LORD's eyes, he will bring me back and let me see it and his dwelling place again. 그러나 잇대는 왕에게 대답하였다. "주님께서 확실히 살아 계시고, 임금님께서도 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 맹세합니다만, 그럴 수는 없습니다. 임금님께서 가시는 곳이면, 살든지 죽든지, 이 종도 따라가겠습니다." 그러자 다윗이 잇대에게 말하였다. "그러면 먼저 건너 가시오." 그리하여 가드 사람 잇대도 자기의 부하들과 자기에게 딸린 아이들을 모두 거느리고 건너 갔다. 이렇게 해서 다윗의 부하들이 모두 그의 앞을 지나갈 때에, 온 땅이 울음 바다가 되었다. 왕이 기드론 시내를 건너 가니, 그의 부하도 모두 그의 앞을 지나서, 광야 쪽으로 행군하였다. 그런데 그 곳에는, 하나님의 언약궤를 메고 온 모든 레위 사람과 함께, 사독도 와 있었다. 그들은 거기에다가 하나님의 궤를 내려놓았다. 아비아달도 따라 올라와서, 다윗의 부하가 도성에서 나아와서, 왕의 앞을 모두 지나갈 때까지 거기에 있었다. 그런 뒤에 왕이 사독에게 말하였다. "하나님의 궤를 다시 도성 안으로 옮기시오. 내가 주님께 은혜를 입으면, 주님께서 나를 다시 돌려보내 주셔서, 이 궤와 이 궤가 있는 곳을 다시 보게 하실 것이오.

But if he says, 'I am not pleased with you,' then I am ready; let him do to me whatever seems good to him." The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Aren't you a seer? Go back to the city in peace, with your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar. You and Abiathar take your two sons with you. I will wait at the fords in the desert until word comes from you to inform me." So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there. But David continued up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went; his head was covered and he was barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads too and were weeping as they went up. 그러나 주님께서 나를 싫다고 하시면, 오직 주님께서 바라시는 대로 나에게서 이루시기를 빌 수밖에 없소." 왕이 또 제사장 사독에게 말하였다. "사독 제사장님께서는 선견자가 아니십니까? 성 안으로 평안히 돌아가시기 바랍니다. 제사장께서는 아비아달 제사장과 함께 두 분의 아들 곧 제사장님의 아들 아히마아스와 아비아달 제사장의 아들 요나단을 데리고 가십시오. 두 분께서 나에게 소식을 보내 올 때까지는, 내가 광야의 나루터에서 머물고 있을 터이니, 이 점을 명심하십시오." 그리하여 사독은, 아비아달과 함께 하나님의 궤를 다시 예루살렘으로 옮겨다 놓고서, 그 곳에 머물러 있었다. 다윗은 올리브 산 언덕으로 올라갔다. 그는 올라가면서 계속하여 울고, 머리를 가리고 슬퍼하면서, 맨발로 걸어서 갔다. 다윗과 함께 있는 백성들도 모두 머리를 가리고 울면서, 언덕으로 올라갔다.

Now David had been told, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." So David prayed, "O LORD, turn Ahithophel's counsel into foolishness." When David arrived at the summit, where people used to worship God, Hushai the Arkite was there to meet him, his robe torn and dust on his head. David said to him, "If you go with me, you will be a burden to me. But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; I was your father's servant in the past, but now I will be your servant,' then you can help me by frustrating Ahithophel's advice. Won't the priests Zadok and Abiathar be there with you? Tell them anything you hear in the king's palace. 그 때에 누가 다윗에게, 압살롬과 함께 반역한 사람들 가운데는 아히도벨도 끼여 있다는 말을 전하자, 다윗이 기도하였다. "주님, 부디, 아히도벨의 계획이 어리석은 것이 되게 하여 주십시오." 다윗이, 사람들이 하나님을 경배하는 산 꼭대기에 다다르니, 아렉 사람 후새가 슬픔을 못이겨서 겉옷을 찢고, 머리에 흙을 뒤집어 쓴 채로 나아오면서, 다윗을 맞았다. 다윗이 그에게 말하였다. "그대가 나와 함께 떠나면, 그대는 나에게 짐만 될 것이오. 그러니 그대는 이제 성으로 돌아가서, 압살롬을 만나거든, 그를 임금님으로 받들고, 이제부터는 새 임금의 종이 되겠다고 말하시오. 이제까지는 임금의 아버지를 섬기는 종이었으나, 이제부터는 그의 아들, 새 임금의 종이 되겠다고 말하시오. 그것이 나를 돕는 길이고, 아히도벨의 계획을 실패로 돌아가게 하는 길이오. 그 곳에 가면, 두 제사장 사독과 아비아달이 그대와 합세할 것이오. 그러므로 그대가 왕궁에서 듣는 말은, 무엇이든지 두 제사장 사독과 아비아달에게 전하시오.

Their two sons, Ahimaaz son of Zadok and Jonathan son of Abiathar, are there with them. Send them to me with anything you hear." So David's friend Hushai arrived at Jerusalem as Absalom was entering the city. 그들은 지금 자기들의 아들 둘을 그 곳에 데리고 있소. 사독에게는 아히마아스가 있고, 아비아달에게는 요나단이 있으니, 그대들이 듣는 말은 무엇이든지, 그들을 시켜서 나에게 전하여 주시오." 그리하여 다윗의 친구인 후새는 성으로 들어갔다. 같은 시간에 압살롬도 예루살렘에 도착하였다.
