사무엘하 12장

 

The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. "Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him." David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die! 주님께서 예언자 나단을 다윗에게 보내셨다. 나단은 다윗을 찾아와서, 이런 이야기를 하였다. "어떤 성읍에 두 사람이 살았습니다. 한 사람은 부유하였고, 한 사람은 가난하였습니다. 그 부자에게는 양과 소가 아주 많았습니다. 그러나 그 가난한 사람에게는, 사다가 키우는 어린 암양 한 마리 밖에는, 아무것도 없었습니다. 그는 이 어린 양을 자기 집에서 길렀습니다. 그래서 그 어린 양은 그의 아이들과 함께 자라났습니다. 어린 양은 주인이 먹는 음식을 함께 먹고, 주인의 잔에 있는 것을 함께 마시고, 주인의 품에 안겨서 함께 잤습니다. 이렇게 그 양은 주인의 딸과 같았습니다. 그런데 그 부자에게 나그네 한 사람이 찾아왔습니다. 그 부자는 자기를 찾아온 손님을 대접하는 데, 자기의 양 떼나 소 떼에서는 한 마리도 잡기가 아까웠습니다. 그래서 그는 그 가난한 사람의 어린 암양을 빼앗아다가, 자기를 찾아온 사람에게 대접하였습니다." 다윗은 그 부자가 못마땅하여, 몹시 분개하면서, 나단에게 말하였다. "주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고서 맹세하지만, 그런 일을 한 사람은 죽어야 마땅합니다.

He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity." Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.' 또 그가 그런 일을 하면서도 불쌍히 여기는 마음이 전혀 없었으니, 그는 마땅히 그 어린 암양을 네 배로 갚아 주어야 합니다." 나단이 다윗에게 말하였다. "임금님이 바로 그 사람입니다. 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 이렇게 말씀하십니다. '내가 너에게 기름을 부어서, 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼았고, 또 내가 사울의 손에서 너를 구하여 주었다. 나는 네 상전의 왕궁을 너에게 넘겨 주고, 네 상전의 아내들도 네 품에 안겨 주었고, 이스라엘 사람들과 유다 나라도 너에게 맡겼다. 그것으로도 부족하다면, 내가 네게 무엇이든지 더 주었을 것이다. 그런데도 너는, 어찌하여 나 주의 말을 가볍게 여기고, 내가 악하게 여기는 일을 하였느냐? 너는 헷 사람 우리야를 전쟁터에서 죽이고 그의 아내를 빼앗아 네 아내로 삼았다. 너는 그를 암몬 사람의 칼에 맞아서 죽게 하였다. 너는 이렇게 나를 무시하여 헷 사람 우리야의 아내를 빼앗아다가 네 아내로 삼았으므로, 이제부터는 영영 네 집안에서 칼부림이 떠나지 않을 것이다.'

"This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.' " Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die." After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife had borne to David, and he became ill. 주님께서 또 이렇게 말씀하십니다. '내가 너의 집안에 재앙을 일으키고, 네가 보는 앞에서 내가 너의 아내들도 빼앗아 너와 가까운 사람에게 주어서, 그가 대낮에 너의 아내들을 욕보이게 하겠다. 너는 비록 몰래 그러한 일을 하였지만, 나는 대낮에 온 이스라엘이 바라보는 앞에서 이 일을 하겠다.'" 그 때에 다윗이 나단에게 자백하였다. "내가 주님께 죄를 지었습니다." 나단이 다윗에게 말하였다. "주님께서 임금님의 죄를 용서해 주실 것입니다. 그러므로 임금님은 죽지는 않으실 것입니다. 그러나 임금님은 이번 일로 주님의 원수들에게 우리를 비방할 빌미를 주셨으므로, 밧세바와 임금님 사이에서 태어난 아들은 죽을 것입니다." 나단은 자기 집으로 돌아갔다. 주님께서, 우리야의 아내와 다윗 사이에서 태어난 아이를 치시니, 그 아이가 몹시 앓았다.

David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and went into his house and spent the nights lying on the ground. The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them. On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, "While the child was still living, we spoke to David but he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate." David noticed that his servants were whispering among themselves and he realized the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" he asked. "Yes," they replied, "he is dead." Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate. 다윗이 그 어린 아이를 살리려고, 하나님께 간절히 기도를 드리면서 금식하였다. 그는 왕궁으로 돌아와서도 밤을 새웠으며, 맨 땅에 누워서 잠을 잤다. 다윗 왕궁에 있는 늙은 신하들이 그에게로 가까이 가서, 그를 땅바닥에서 일으켜 세우려고 하였으나, 그는 일어나려고 하지도 않고, 또 그들과 함께 음식을 먹으려고도 하지 않았다. 그러다가, 이레째 되는 날에 그 아이가 죽었다. 그러나 다윗의 신하들은, 아이가 죽었다는 것을 다윗에게 알리기를 두려워하였다. "어린 왕자가 살아 계실 때에도 우리가 드리는 말씀을 듣지 않으셨는데, 왕자께서 돌아가셨다는 소식을, 우리가 어떻게 전하여 드릴 수 있겠소? 그런 소식은 임금님의 몸에 해로울지도 모르오." 그러나 다윗은, 신하들이 서로 수군거리는 것을 보고서, 아이가 죽은 줄 짐작하고, 신하들에게 "아이가 죽었느냐?" 하고 물었다. 신하들이 대답하였다. "돌아가셨습니다." 그러자 다윗은 땅바닥에서 일어나서, 목욕을 하고, 몸에 기름을 바르고, 옷을 갈아 입은 뒤에, 성전으로 들어가서 주님께 경배하였다. 그는 왕궁으로 돌아오자, 음식을 차려오게 하여서 먹었다.

His servants asked him, "Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!" He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.' But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me." Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The LORD loved him; and because the LORD loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah. 신하들이 다윗에게 물었다. "왕자가 살아 계실 때에는 임금님께서 식음을 전폐하고 슬퍼하시더니, 이제 왕자가 돌아가시자 임금님께서 일어나셔서 음식을 드시니, 이것이 어떻게 된 일이십니까?" 다윗이 대답하였다. "아이가 살아 있을 때에 내가 금식하면서 운 것은, 혹시 주님께서 나를 불쌍히 여겨 주셔서, 그 아이를 살려 주실지도 모른다고 생각하였기 때문이오. 그러나 이제는 그 아이가 죽었는데, 무엇 때문에 내가 계속 금식하겠소? 내가 그를 다시 돌아오게 할 수가 있겠소? 나는 그에게로 갈 수 있지만, 그는 나에게로 올 수가 없소." 그 뒤에 다윗이 자기의 아내 밧세바를 위로하고, 동침하니, 그 여인이 아들을 낳았다. 다윗이 그의 이름을 솔로몬이라고 하였다. 주님께서도 그 아이를 사랑해 주셔서, 예언자 나단을 보내셔서, 주님께서 사랑하신다는 뜻으로, 그의 이름을 여디디야라고 부르게 하셨다.

Meanwhile Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and captured the royal citadel. Joab then sent messengers to David, saying, "I have fought against Rabbah and taken its water supply. Now muster the rest of the troops and besiege the city and capture it. Otherwise I will take the city, and it will be named after me." So David mustered the entire army and went to Rabbah, and attacked and captured it. He took the crown from the head of their king --its weight was a talent of gold, and it was set with precious stones--and it was placed on David's head. He took a great quantity of plunder from the city 요압이 암몬 사람의 도성 랍바를 쳐서, 그 왕의 도성을 점령하고서, 다윗에게 전령들을 보내어서, 이렇게 말하였다. "제가 랍바를 치고, 도성으로 들어가는 급수지역을 점령하였습니다. 이제 임금님께서 남은 군인들을 불러모아서, 이 도성을 공격할 진을 치시고, 이 도성을 직접 점령하시기 바랍니다. 제가 이 도성을 점령하기보다는, 임금님께서 이 도성을 점령하셔서, 임금님의 이름이 승리자의 이름으로 기록되게 해주시기 바랍니다." 다윗이 모든 군인을 불러모으고, 랍바로 가서, 그 도성을 쳐서 점령하였다. 그는 암몬 왕의 머리에서 금관을 벗겨 왔는데, 그 무게가 금 한 달란트나 나갔고, 금관에는 보석이 박혀 있었다. 다윗은 그 금관을 가져다가, 자기가 썼다. 다윗은 그 도성에서 아주 많은 전리품을 약탈하였으며,

and brought out the people who were there, consigning them to labor with saws and with iron picks and axes, and he made them work at brickmaking. He did this to all the Ammonite towns. Then David and his entire army returned to Jerusalem. 그 도성에 사는 백성도 끌어다가, 톱질과 곡괭이질과 도끼질과 벽돌 굽는 일을 시켰다. 그는 암몬 사람의 모든 성읍에 이와 똑같이 한 뒤에, 모든 군인을 거느리고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.
