사무엘상 2장

 

Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. "There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. "Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. "The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength. Those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who were hungry hunger no more. She who was barren has borne seven children, but she who has had many sons pines away. 한나가 기도로 아뢰었다. "주님께서 나의 마음에 기쁨을 가득 채워 주셨습니다. 이제 나는 주님 앞에서 얼굴을 들 수 있습니다. 원수들 앞에서도 자랑스럽습니다. 주님께서 나를 구하셨으므로, 내 기쁨이 큽니다. 주님과 같으신 분은 없습니다. 주님처럼 거룩하신 분은 없습니다. 우리 하나님같은 반석은 없습니다. 너희는 교만한 말을 늘어 놓지 말아라. 오만한 말을 입 밖에 내지 말아라. 참으로 주님은 모든 것을 아시는 하나님이시며, 사람이 하는 일을 저울에 달아 보시는 분이시다. 용사들의 활은 꺾이나, 약한 사람들은 강해진다. 한때 넉넉하게 살던 자들은 먹고 살려고 품을 팔지만, 굶주리던 자들은 다시 굶주리지 않는다. 자식을 못 낳던 여인은 일곱이나 낳지만, 아들을 많이 둔 여인은 홀로 남는다.

"The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. "For the foundations of the earth are the LORD's; upon them he has set the world. He will guard the feet of his saints, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness. "It is not by strength that one prevails; those who oppose the LORD will be shattered. He will thunder against them from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed." 주님은 사람을 죽이기도 하시고 살리기도 하시며, 스올로 내려가게도 하시고, 거기에서 다시 돌아오게도 하신다. 주님은 사람을 가난하게도 하시고, 부유하게도 하시고, 낮추기도 하시고, 높이기도 하신다. 가난한 사람을 티끌에서 일으키시며 궁핍한 사람을 거름더미에서 들어올리셔서, 귀한 이들과 한자리에 앉게 하시며 영광스러운 자리를 차지하게 하신다. 이 세상을 떠받치고 있는 기초는 모두 주님의 것이다. 그분이 땅덩어리를 기초 위에 올려 놓으셨다. 주님께서는 성도들의 발걸음을 지켜 주시며, 악인들을 어둠 속에서 멸망시키신다. 사람이 힘으로 이길 수가 없다. 주님께 맞서는 자들은 산산이 깨어질 것이다. 하늘에서 벼락으로 그들을 치실 것이다. 주님께서 땅 끝까지 심판하시고, 세우신 왕에게 힘을 주시며, 기름부어 세우신 왕에게 승리를 안겨 주실 것이다."

Then Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy ministered before the LORD under Eli the priest. Eli's sons were wicked men; they had no regard for the LORD. Now it was the practice of the priests with the people that whenever anyone offered a sacrifice and while the meat was being boiled, the servant of the priest would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand. He would plunge it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot, and the priest would take for himself whatever the fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh. But even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, "Give the priest some meat to roast; he won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw." 엘가나는 라마에 있는 자기의 집으로 돌아갔으나, 사무엘은 제사장 엘리 곁에 있으면서 주님을 섬기는 사람이 되었다. 엘리의 아들들은 행실이 나빴다. 그들은 주님을 무시하였다. 제사장이 백성에게 지켜야 하는 규정이 있었는데, 그들은 그것도 무시하였다. 누군가가 제사를 드리고 그 고기를 삶고 있으면, 그 제사장의 종이 살이 세 개 달린 갈고리를 들고 와서, 냄비나 솥이나 큰 솥이나 가마솥에 갈고리를 찔러 넣어서, 그 갈고리에 걸려 나오는 것은 무엇이든지 제사장의 몫으로 가져갔다. 실로에 와서 주님께 제물을 바치는 이스라엘 사람이 모두 이런 일을 당하였다. 그뿐 아니라, 사람들이 아직 기름을 떼내어 태우지도 않았는데, 제사장의 종이 와서, 제물을 바치는 사람에게 "제사장님께 구워 드릴 살코기를 내놓으시오. 그분이 원하는 것은 삶은 고기가 아니라 날고기요!" 하고 말하곤 하였다.

If the man said to him, "Let the fat be burned up first, and then take whatever you want," the servant would then answer, "No, hand it over now; if you don't, I'll take it by force." This sin of the young men was very great in the LORD's sight, for they were treating the LORD's offering with contempt. But Samuel was ministering before the LORD -a boy wearing a linen ephod. Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice. Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, "May the LORD give you children by this woman to take the place of the one she prayed for and gave to the LORD." Then they would go home. 제물을 바치는 사람이 그 종에게 "먼저 기름을 태우도록 되어 있으니, 그렇게 하고 난 다음에 원하는 것을 가져 가시오!" 하고 말하면, 그는 "아니오. 당장 내놓으시오. 그렇지 않으면 강제로라도 가져 가겠소!" 하고 대답하였다. 엘리의 아들들은, 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 이렇듯 심하게 큰 죄를 저질렀다. 그들은 주님께 바치는 제물을 이처럼 함부로 대하였다. 한편, 어린 사무엘은, 모시 에봇을 입고 주님을 섬겼다. 사무엘의 어머니는 해마다 남편과 함께 매년제사를 드리러 성소로 올라가곤 하였다. 그 때마다 그는 아들에게 작은 겉옷을 만들어서 가져다 주었다. 그리고 엘리는 엘가나와 그의 아내에게 "주님께 간구하여 얻은 아들을 다시 주님께 바쳤으니, 주님께서 두 분 사이에, 이 아이 대신에 다른 자녀를 많이 주시기를 바랍니다" 하고 복을 빌어 주었다. 그들은 이렇게 축복을 받고서, 고향으로 돌아가곤 하였다.

And the LORD was gracious to Hannah; she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD. Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. So he said to them, "Why do you do such things? I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours. No, my sons; it is not a good report that I hear spreading among the LORD's people. If a man sins against another man, God may mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?" His sons, however, did not listen to their father's rebuke, for it was the LORD's will to put them to death. 주님께서 한나를 돌보아 주셔서, 한나는 임신하여 아들 셋과 딸 둘을 더 낳았다. 어린 사무엘도 주님 앞에서 잘 자랐다. 엘리는 매우 늙었다. 그는 자기 아들들이 모든 이스라엘 사람에게 저지른 온갖 잘못을 상세하게 들었고, 회막 어귀에서 일하는 여인들과 동침까지 한다는 소문을 들었다. 그래서 그는 그들을 타일렀다. "너희가 어쩌자고 이런 짓을 하느냐? 너희가 저지른 악행을, 내가 이 백성 모두에게서 듣고 있다. 이놈들아, 당장 그쳐라! 주님의 백성이 이런 추문을 옮기는 것을 내가 듣게 되다니, 두려운 일이다. 사람끼리 죄를 지으면 하나님이 중재하여 주시겠지만, 사람이 주님께 죄를 지으면 누가 변호하여 주겠느냐?" 아버지가 이렇게 꾸짖어도, 그들은 아버지의 말을 듣지 않았다. 주님께서 이미 그들을 죽이려고 하셨기 때문이다.

And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with men. Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the LORD says: 'Did I not clearly reveal myself to your father's house when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh? I chose your father out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I also gave your father's house all the offerings made with fire by the Israelites. Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?' "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that your house and your father's house would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained. 한편, 어린 사무엘은 커 갈수록 주님과 사람들에게 더욱 사랑을 받았다. 하나님의 사람이 엘리를 찾아와서 말하였다. "나 주가 말한다. 네 조상의 집이 이집트에서 바로의 집에 속하였을 때에, 내가 그들에게 나를 분명하게 나타내 주지 않았느냐? 그 때에 내가 이스라엘의 모든 지파 가운데서 네 조상 아론을 선택해서, 나의 제사장으로 삼아, 나의 제단에 올라와 분향을 하게 하며, 에봇을 입고 내 앞으로 나아와 내 뜻을 듣도록 하지 않았느냐? 또 나는, 이스라엘 자손이 드리는 불살라 바치는 제물을 모두 너희의 몫으로 차지할 권리를, 네 조상의 집안에 주지 않았느냐? 그런데 너희는 어찌하여, 나의 처소에서 나에게 바치라고 명한 나의 제물과 예물을 멸시하느냐? 어찌하여 너는 나보다 네 자식들을 더 소중하게 여기어, 나의 백성 이스라엘이 나에게 바친 모든 제물 가운데서 가장 좋은 것들만 골라다가, 스스로 살찌도록 하느냐? 그러므로 나 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 말한다. 지난 날 나는, 너의 집과 너의 조상의 집이 제사장 가문을 이루어 언제까지나 나를 섬길 것이라고 분명하게 약속하였지만, 이제는 더 이상 그렇게 하지 않겠다. 이제는 내가 나를 존중하는 사람들만 존중하고, 나를 경멸하는 자들은 수치를 당하게 할 것이다. 나 주의 말이다.

The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your family line and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, in your family line there will never be an old man. Every one of you that I do not cut off from my altar will be spared only to blind your eyes with tears and to grieve your heart, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life. " 'And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you--they will both die on the same day. I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his house, and he will minister before my anointed one always. 내가 네 자손과 네 족속의 자손의 대를 끊어서, 너의 집안에 오래 살아 나이를 많이 먹는 노인이 없게 할 날이 올 것이다. 너는 고통을 받으면서, 내가 이스라엘의 모든 백성에게 베푸는 복을 시샘하며 바라볼 것이다. 네 가문에서는 어느 누구도 오래 살지 못할 것이다. 그러나 나는 네 자손 가운데서 하나만은 끊어 버리지 않고 살려 둘 터인데, 그가 제사장이 되어 나를 섬길 것이다. 그러나 그는 맹인이 되고, 희망을 다 잃고, 그의 자손들은 모두 젊은 나이에 변사를 당할 것이다. 네 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스도 한 날에 죽을 것이며, 이것은 내가 말한 모든 것이 반드시 이루어진다는 표징이 될 것이다. 나는 나의 마음과 나의 생각을 따라서 행동하는 충실한 제사장을 세우겠다. 내가 그에게 자손을 주고, 그들이 언제나 내가 기름부어 세운 왕 앞에서 제사장 일을 보게 하겠다.

Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a crust of bread and plead, "Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat."
