신명기 8장

Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. "당신들은 오늘 내가 당신들에게 명하는 모든 명령을 잘 지키십시오. 그러면 당신들이 살아서 번성할 것이며, 주님께서 당신들 조상에게 약속하신 땅에 들어가서 그 땅을 차지할 것입니다. 당신들이 광야를 지나온 사십 년 동안, 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들을 어떻게 인도하셨는지를 기억하십시오. 그렇게 오랫동안 당신들을 광야에 머물게 하신 것은, 당신들을 단련시키고 시험하셔서, 당신들이 하나님의 계명을 지키는지 안 지키는지, 당신들의 마음 속을 알아보려는 것이었습니다. 주님께서 당신들을 낮추시고 굶기시다가, 당신들도 알지 못하고 당신들의 조상도 알지 못하는 만나를 먹이셨는데, 이것은, 사람이 먹는 것으로만 사는 것이 아니라 주님의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 산다는 것을, 당신들에게 알려 주시려는 것이었습니다. 지난 사십 년 동안, 당신들의 몸에 걸친 옷이 해어진 일이 없고, 발이 부르튼 일도 없었습니다. 당신들은, 사람이 자기 자녀를 훈련시키듯이, 주 당신들의 하나님도 당신들을 훈련시키신다는 것을 마음 속에 새겨 두십시오.

Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land--a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills; a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills. When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님의 명령을 잘 지키고, 그의 길을 따라가며, 그를 경외하십시오. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들을 데리고 가시는 땅은 좋은 땅입니다. 골짜기와 산에서 지하수가 흐르고 샘물이 나고 시냇물이 흐르는 땅이며, 밀과 보리가 자라고 포도와 무화과와 석류가 나는 땅이며, 올리브 기름과 꿀이 생산되는 땅이며, 먹을 것이 모자라지 않고 아무것도 부족함이 없는 땅이며, 돌에서는 쇠를 얻고 산에서는 구리를 캐낼 수 있는 땅입니다. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 주신 옥토에서, 당신들은 배불리 먹고 주님을 찬양할 것입니다."

Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. "오늘 내가 당신들에게 전하여 주는 주님의 명령과 법도와 규례를 어기는 일이 없도록 하고, 주 당신들의 하나님을 잊지 않도록 하십시오. 당신들이 배불리 먹으며, 좋은 집을 짓고 거기에서 살지라도, 또 당신들의 소와 양이 번성하고, 은과 금이 많아져서 당신들의 재산이 늘어날지라도, 혹시라도 교만한 마음이 생겨서, 당신들을 이집트 땅 종살이하던 집에서 이끌어 내신 주 당신들의 하나님을 잊어버리는 일이 없도록 하십시오. 주님께서는 넓고 황량한 광야 곧 불뱀과 전갈이 우글거리는 광야와 물이 없는 사막에서 당신들을 인도하여 주시고, 차돌 바위에서 샘물이 나게 하신 분이십니다.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God. 광야에서는 당신들의 조상도 알지 못하던 만나를 당신들에게 먹이셨습니다. 이것이 다 당신들을 단련시키고 시험하셔서, 나중에 당신들이 잘 되게 하시려는 것이었습니다. 당신들이 마음 속으로 '이 재물은 내 능력과 내 손의 힘으로 모은 것이라'고 생각할 것 같아서 걱정이 됩니다. 그러나 주 당신들의 하나님이, 당신들의 조상에게 맹세하신 그 언약을 이루시려고 오늘 이렇게 재산을 모으도록 당신들에게 힘을 주셨음을, 당신들은 기억해야 합니다. 내가 오늘 당신들에게 다짐합니다. 당신들이 주 당신들의 하나님을 참으로 잊어버리고, 다른 신들을 따라가서 그들을 섬기며 절한다면, 당신들은 반드시 멸망할 것입니다. 당신들이 주 당신들의 하나님의 음성을 듣지 않으면, 주님께서는, 당신들 앞에서 멸망시킨 민족들과 똑같이, 당신들도 망하게 하실 것입니다."
