신명기 5장

Moses summoned all Israel and said: Hear, O Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them. The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. It was not with our fathers that the LORD made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today. The LORD spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain. (At that time I stood between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.) And he said: 모세가 온 이스라엘을 불러모으고 그들에게 말하였다. "이스라엘 자손 여러분, 내가 오늘 당신들에게 말하는 규례와 법도를 귀담아 듣고, 그것을 익히고 지키십시오. 주 우리의 하나님은 호렙 산에서 우리와 언약을 세우셨습니다. 주님께서 이 언약을 우리 조상과 세우신 것이 아니라, 오늘 여기 살아 있는 우리 모두와 세우신 것입니다. 주님께서는 그 산 불 가운데서, 당신들과 함께 서로 얼굴을 마주 보고 말씀하셨습니다. 그 때에 당신들이 그 불을 무서워하여 산에 올라가지 못하였으므로, 내가 주님과 당신들의 사이에 서서, 주님의 말씀을 당신들에게 전하여 주었습니다. 주님께서 말씀하셨습니다.

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before me. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. '나는 너희를 이집트 땅, 종살이하던 집에서 이끌어 낸 주 너희의 하나님이다. 너희는 내 앞에서 다른 신들을 섬기지 못한다. 너희는 너희가 섬기려고 위로 하늘에 있는 것이나, 아래로 땅에 있는 것이나, 땅 아래 물 속에 있는 어떤 것이든지, 그 모양을 본떠서 우상을 만들지 못한다. 너희는 그것들에게 절하거나, 그것들을 섬기지 못한다. 나, 주 너희의 하나님은 질투하는 하나님이다. 나를 미워하는 사람에게는 그 죄값으로, 본인뿐만 아니라 삼사 대 자손에게까지 벌을 내린다. 그러나 나를 사랑하고 나의 계명을 지키는 사람에게는 수천 대 자손에 이르기까지 한결같은 사랑을 베푼다.

"You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. "Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. on it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day. 너희는 주 너의 하나님의 이름을 함부로 부르지 못한다. 주는 자기 이름을 함부로 일컫는 사람을 죄 없다고 하지 않는다. 너희는 안식일을 거룩하게 지켜라. 이것은 주 너희의 하나님이 너희에게 명한 것이다. 너희는 엿새 동안 모든 일을 힘써 하여라. 그러나 이렛날은 주 너희 하나님의 안식일이니, 너희는 어떤 일도 해서는 안 된다. 너나, 너의 아들이나 딸이나, 너희의 남종이나 여종뿐만 아니라, 너희의 소나 나귀나, 그 밖에 모든 집짐승이나, 너희의 집안에 머무르는 식객이라도, 일을 해서는 안 된다. 너희의 남종이나 여종도 너와 똑같이 쉬게 하여야 한다. 너희는 기억하여라. 너희가 이집트 땅에서 종살이를 하고 있을 때에, 주 너희의 하나님이 강한 손과 편 팔로 너희를 거기에서 이끌어 내었으므로, 주 너희의 하나님이 너에게 안식일을 지키라고 명한다.

"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you. "You shall not murder. "You shall not commit adultery. "You shall not steal. "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 너희 부모를 공경하여라. 주 너희 하나님이 명하신 것이다. 그래야 너희는, 주 너희의 하나님이 너희에게 준 땅에서 오래 살면서 복을 누린다. 살인하지 못한다. 간음하지 못한다. 도둑질하지 못한다. 이웃을 모함하는 거짓 증언을 하지 못한다.

"You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor's house or land, his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." These are the commandments the LORD proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me. When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leading men of your tribes and your elders came to me. And you said, "The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him. But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer. 이웃의 아내를 탐내지 못한다. 이웃의 집이나 밭이나, 남종이나 여종이나 소나 나귀나 할 것 없이, 너희 이웃의 소유는 어떤 것도 탐내지 못한다.' 주님께서는 이 말씀을 구름이 덮인 캄캄한 산 위 불 가운데서, 큰 목소리로 당신들 온 총회에 선포하시고, 이 말씀에 조금도 보탬이 없이, 그대로 두 돌판에 새겨서 나에게 주셨습니다." "산이 불에 탈 때에, 캄캄한 어둠 속에서 들려 오는 음성을 당신들이 듣고, 당신들 지파의 모든 두령과 장로들이 나에게 다가와서, 이렇게 말하였습니다. '보십시오, 주 우리의 하나님은 그의 영광과 위엄을 우리에게 보여 주시고, 우리는 불 가운데서 들려 오는 하나님의 음성을 들었습니다. 그리고 하나님이 사람과 말씀하셨는데도 그 사람이 여전히 살아 있음을, 오늘 우리는 보았습니다. 그런데 지금은 이 큰 불길이 우리를 삼키려고 하고 있으니, 어찌하여 우리가 죽음의 위협을 받아야 합니까? 우리가 주 우리 하나님의 음성을 다시 듣는다면, 우리는 죽을 것입니다.

For what mortal man has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then tell us whatever the LORD our God tells you. We will listen and obey." The LORD heard you when you spoke to me and the LORD said to me, "I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever! "Go, tell them to return to their tents. 살아 계시는 하나님이 불 가운데서 하시는 말씀을 듣고도 우리처럼 산 사람이, 육체를 가진 사람 가운데 누가 있겠습니까? 그러니 직접 가까이 나아가셔서, 주 우리의 하나님이 말씀하시는 것을 모두 들으시고, 주 우리의 하나님이 하신 모든 말씀을 우리에게 다 전달하여 주시기를 바랍니다. 그러면 우리가 듣고 그대로 하겠습니다.' 당신들이 나에게 한 이 말을 주님께서 모두 들으셨습니다. 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. '이 백성이 너에게 말하는 것을 내가 들으니, 그들의 말이 모두 옳다. 그들이 언제나 이런 마음을 품고 나를 두려워하며, 나의 모든 명령을 지켜서, 그들만이 아니라 그 자손도 길이길이 잘 살게 되기를 바란다. 가서 그들에게 저마다 자기의 장막으로 돌아가라고 말하여라.

But you stay here with me so that I may give you all the commands, decrees and laws you are to teach them to follow in the land I am giving them to possess." So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. 그러나 너만은 여기에서 나와 함께 있다가, 내가 너에게 일러주는 이 모든 명령과 규례와 법도를 받아서 그들에게 가르쳐 주어라. 그들은 내가 그들에게 유산으로 주는 땅에서 그것을 그대로 실행하여야 한다.' 그러므로 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들에게 명하신 모든 것을 성심껏 지켜야 하며, 오른쪽으로나 왼쪽으로나 벗어나지 말아야 합니다. 당신들은 주 당신들의 하나님이 명하신 그 모든 길만을 따라가야 합니다. 그러면 당신들이 차지할 땅에서 풍성한 복을 얻고, 오래오래 잘 살 것입니다."
