Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: "I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross the Jordan.' The LORD your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the LORD said. And the LORD will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. 모세가 온 이스라엘 백성에게 계속하여 말하였다. 모세가 그들에게 말하였다. "이제 내 나이 백스무 살입니다. 이제 더 이상 당신들 앞에 서서 당신들을 지도할 수 없습니다. 주님께서는, 내가 요단 강을 건너는 것을 허락하지 않으셨습니다. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들 앞에서 건너가셔서, 몸소 저 민족들을 당신들 앞에서 멸하시고, 당신들이 그 땅을 차지하게 하실 것입니다. 주님께서 말씀하신 대로, 여호수아가 지휘관이 되어 당신들 앞에서 건너갈 것입니다. 이미 주님께서 아모리 왕 시혼과 옥과 그들의 땅을 멸하신 것과 같이, 그들도 멸하실 것입니다. 주님께서 그들을 당신들에게 넘겨 주실 것입니다. 당신들은 내가 당신들에게 명한 대로 그들에게 하여야 합니다.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their forefathers to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel. Then Moses commanded them: "At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Feast of Tabernacles, 마음을 강하게 하고 용기를 내십시오. 그들 앞에서, 두려워하지도 말고 무서워하지도 마십시오. 주 당신들의 하나님이 당신들과 함께 가시면서, 당신들을 떠나지도 않으시고 버리지도 않으실 것입니다." 모세가 여호수아를 불러서, 온 이스라엘이 보는 앞에서 그에게 말하였다. "그대는 마음을 강하게 하고 용기를 내시오. 그대는, 주님께서 그대의 조상에게 주시기로 맹세하신 땅으로 이 백성과 함께 가서, 그들이 그 땅을 유산으로 얻게 하시오. 주님께서 친히 그대 앞에서 가시며, 그대와 함께 계시며, 그대를 떠나지도 않으시고 버리지도 않으실 것이니, 두려워하지도 말고 겁내지도 마시오." 모세가 이 율법을 기록하여, 주님의 언약궤를 메는 레위 자손 제사장들과 이스라엘의 모든 장로에게 주었다. 모세가 그들에게 명령하였다. "일곱 해가 끝날 때마다, 곧 빚을 면제해 주는 해의 초막절에,

when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing. Assemble the people--men, women and children, and the aliens living in your towns--so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." The LORD said to Moses, "Now the day of your death is near. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the Tent of Meeting, where I will commission him." So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the Tent of Meeting. Then the LORD appeared at the Tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the Tent. 온 이스라엘이 주 당신들의 하나님을 뵈려고 그분이 택하신 곳으로 나오면, 당신들은 이 율법을 온 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 읽어서, 그들의 귀에 들려주십시오. 당신들은 이 백성의 남녀와 어린 아이만이 아니라 성 안에서 당신들과 같이 사는 외국 사람도 불러모아서, 그들이 율법을 듣고 배워서, 주 당신들의 하나님을 경외하며, 이 율법의 모든 말씀을 지키도록 하십시오. 당신들이 요단 강을 건너가서 차지하는 땅에 살게 될 때에, 이 율법을 알지 못하는 당신들의 자손도 듣고 배워서, 주 당신들의 하나님을 경외하게 하십시오." 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "이제 네가 죽을 날이 가까이 왔으니, 여호수아를 불러 함께 회막으로 나아오너라. 내가 그에게 명을 내리겠다." 그래서 모세와 여호수아가 회막으로 나아갔다. 그 때에 주님께서 구름기둥 가운데서 장막에 나타나시고, 구름기둥은 장막 어귀 위에 머물러 있었다.

And the LORD said to Moses: "You are going to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?' And I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods. "Now write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them. When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their forefathers, and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant. 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 네 조상과 함께 잠들 것이다. 그러나 이 백성은, 들어가서 살게 될 그 땅의 이방 신들과 더불어 음란한 짓을 할 것이다. 그들은 나를 버리고, 나와 세운 그 언약을 깨뜨릴 것이다. 그 날에 내가 그들에게 격렬하게 진노하여, 그들을 버리고 내 얼굴을 그들에게서 숨길 것이다. 그래서 그들은, 온갖 재앙과 고통이 덮치는 날, 이렇게 말할 것이다. '우리 하나님이 우리 가운데 계시지 않기 때문에 이런 재앙이 덮치고 있다' 하고 탄식할 것이다. 그들이 돌아서서 다른 신을 섬기는 온갖 악한 짓을 할 것이니, 그 날에 내가 틀림없이 내 얼굴을 그들에게서 숨기겠다. 이제 이 노래를 적어서, 이스라엘 백성에게 가르쳐 부르게 하여라. 이 노래가 이스라엘 자손에게 내가 무엇을 가르쳤는지를 증언할 것이다. 내가 그들의 조상에게 맹세한, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에 그들을 인도하여 들인 뒤에, 그들이, 살이 찌도록 배불리 먹으면, 눈을 돌려 다른 신들을 섬기며 나를 업신여기고, 나와 세운 언약을 깨뜨릴 것이다.

And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath." So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites. The LORD gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: "Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you." After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end, he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD : 그리하여 그들이 온갖 재앙과 환난을 당하게 될 것이다. 그러나 사람들이 이 노래를 부르는 한, 이 노래가 그들을 일깨워 주는 증언이 될 것이다. 비록 내가 아직 약속한 땅으로 그들을 인도하기 전이지만, 지금 그들이 품고 있는 생각이 무엇인지를 나는 알고 있다." 그 날에 모세는 이 노래를 적어 이스라엘 백성에게 가르쳐 주었다. 주님께서 눈의 아들 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you. For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the LORD while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die! Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to testify against them. For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall upon you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and provoke him to anger by what your hands have made." And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel: "이 율법책을 가져다가 주 당신들의 하나님의 언약궤 옆에 두어서, 당신들에게 증거가 되게 하시오. 내가 당신들의 반항심과 센 고집을 알고 있소. 지금 내가 살아 있어서 당신들과 함께 있는데도 당신들이 주님을 거역하거늘, 내가 죽은 다음에야 오죽하겠소! 각 지파의 장로들과 관리들을 모두 내 앞에 불러모으시오. 내가 이 말씀을 그들의 귀에 들려주고, 하늘과 땅을 증인으로 세우겠소. 나는 압니다. 내가 죽은 뒤에 당신들은 스스로 부패하여, 내가 지시하는 길에서 벗어날 것이오. 당신들이 주님 앞에서 악한 일을 하고, 당신들이 손대는 온갖 일로 주님을 노엽게 하다가, 마침내 훗날에 당신들이 재앙을 받게 될 것이오." 모세가 이스라엘 총회에 모인 모든 사람에게, 이 노래를 끝까지 들려주었다.
