창세기 12장

The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 주님께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. "너는, 네가 살고 있는 땅과, 네가 난 곳과, 너의 아버지의 집을 떠나서, 내가 보여 주는 땅으로 가거라. 내가 너로 큰 민족이 되게 하고, 너에게 복을 주어서, 네가 크게 이름을 떨치게 하겠다. 너는 복의 근원이 될 것이다. 너를 축복하는 사람에게는 내가 복을 베풀고, 너를 저주하는 사람에게는 내가 저주를 내릴 것이다. 땅에 사는 모든 민족이 너로 말미암아 복을 받을 것이다." 아브람은 주님께서 말씀하신 대로 길을 떠났다. 롯도 그와 함께 길을 떠났다. 아브람이 하란을 떠날 때에, 나이는 일흔다섯이었다. 아브람은 아내 사래와 조카 롯과 하란에서 모은 재산과 거기에서 얻은 사람들을 거느리고, 가나안 땅으로 가려고 길을 떠나서, 마침내 가나안 땅에 이르렀다.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him. From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev. Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. 아브람은 그 땅을 지나서, 세겜 땅 곧 모레의 상수리나무가 있는 곳에 이르렀다. 그 때에 그 땅에는 가나안 사람들이 살고 있었다. 주님께서 아브람에게 나타나셔서 말씀하셨다. "내가 너의 자손에게 이 땅을 주겠다." 아브람은 거기에서 자기에게 나타나신 주님께 제단을 쌓아서 바쳤다. 아브람은 또 거기에서 떠나, 베델의 동쪽에 있는 산간지방으로 옮겨 가서 장막을 쳤다. 서쪽은 베델이고 동쪽은 아이이다. 아브람은 거기에서도 제단을 쌓아서, 주님께 바치고, 주님의 이름을 부르며 예배를 드렸다. 아브람은 또 길을 떠나, 줄곧 남쪽으로 가서, 네겝에 이르렀다. 그 땅에 기근이 들었다. 그 기근이 너무 심해서, 아브람은 이집트에서 얼마 동안 몸붙여서 살려고, 그리로 내려갔다.

As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, "I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.' Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you." When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that she was a very beautiful woman. And when Pharaoh's officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. 이집트에 가까이 이르렀을 때에, 그는 아내 사래에게 말하였다. "여보, 나는 당신이 얼마나 아리따운 여인인가를 잘 알고 있소. 이집트 사람들이 당신을 보고서, 당신이 나의 아내라는 것을 알면, 나는 죽이고 당신은 살릴 것이오. 그러니까 당신은 나의 누이라고 하시오. 그렇게 하여야, 내가 당신 덕분에 대접을 잘 받고, 또 당신 덕분에 이 목숨도 부지할 수 있을 거요." 아브람이 이집트에 이르렀을 때에, 이집트 사람들은 아브람의 아내를 보고, 매우 아리따운 여인임을 알았다. 바로의 대신들이 그 여인을 보고 나서, 바로 앞에서 그 여인을 칭찬하였다. 드디어 그 여인은 바로의 궁전으로 불려 들어갔다.

He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels. But the LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai. So Pharaoh summoned Abram. "What have you done to me?" he said. "Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!" Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had. 바로가 그 여인을 보고서, 아브람을 잘 대접하여 주었다. 아브람은 양 떼와 소 떼와 암나귀와 수나귀와 남녀 종과 낙타까지 얻었다. 그러나 주님께서 아브람의 아내 사래의 일로 바로와 그 집안에 무서운 재앙을 내리셨으므로, 바로가 아브람을 불러서 꾸짖었다. "어찌하여 너는 나를 이렇게 대하느냐? 저 여인이 너의 아내라고, 왜 일찍 말하지 않았느냐? 어찌하여 너는 저 여인이 네 누이라고 해서 나를 속이고, 내가 저 여인을 아내로 데려오게 하였느냐? 자, 네 아내가 여기 있다. 데리고 나가거라." 그런 다음에 바로는 그의 신하들에게 명하여, 아브람이 모든 재산을 거두어서 그 아내와 함께 나라 밖으로 나가게 하였다.
