데살로니가 전서 5장

Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 형제자매 여러분, 그 때와 시기를 두고서는 여러분에게 더 쓸 필요가 없겠습니다. 주님의 날이 밤에 도둑처럼 온다는 것을, 여러분은 자세히 알고 있습니다. 사람들이 "평안하다, 안전하다" 하고 말할 그 때에, 아기를 밴 여인에게 해산의 진통이 오는 것과 같이, 갑자기 멸망이 그들에게 닥칠 것이니, 그것을 피하지 못할 것입니다. 그러나 형제자매 여러분, 여러분은 어둠 속에 있지 아니하므로, 그 날이 여러분에게 도둑과 같이 덮치지는 않을 것입니다. 여러분은 모두 빛의 자녀요, 낮의 자녀입니다. 우리는 밤이나 어둠에 속한 사람이 아닙니다.

So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 그러므로 우리는 다른 사람들처럼 잠자지 말고, 깨어 있으며, 정신을 차립시다. 잠자는 자들은 밤에 자고, 술에 취하는 자들도 밤에 취합니다. 그러나 우리는 낮에 속한 사람이므로, 정신을 차리고, 믿음과 사랑을 가슴막이 갑옷으로 입고, 구원의 소망을 투구로 씁시다. 하나님께서는 우리를 진노하심에 이르도록 정하여 놓으신 것이 아니라, 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 얻도록 정하여 놓으셨습니다. 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으신 것은, 우리가 깨어 있든지 자고 있든지, 그리스도와 함께 살게 하시려는 것입니다.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. 그러므로 여러분은 지금도 그렇게 하는 것과 같이, 서로 격려하고, 서로 덕을 세우십시오. 형제자매 여러분, 우리는 여러분에게 부탁합니다. 여러분 가운데서 수고하며, 주님 안에서 여러분을 지도하고 훈계하는 이들을 알아보십시오. 그들이 하는 일을 생각해서 사랑으로 그들을 극진히 존경하십시오. 여러분은 서로 화목하게 지내십시오. 형제자매 여러분, 여러분에게 권고합니다. 무질서하게 사는 사람을 훈계하고, 마음이 약한 사람을 격려하고, 힘이 없는 사람을 도와주고, 모든 사람에게 오래 참으십시오. 아무도 악으로 악을 갚지 말고, 도리어 서로에게, 모든 사람에게, 항상 좋은 일을 하려고 애쓰십시오.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. 항상 기뻐하십시오. 끊임없이 기도하십시오. 모든 일에 감사하십시오. 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 여러분에게 바라시는 하나님의 뜻입니다. 성령을 소멸하지 마십시오. 예언을 멸시하지 마십시오.

Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
