고린도전서 14장

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified. 사랑을 추구하십시오. 신령한 은사를 열심히 구하십시오. 특히 예언하기를 열망하십시오. 방언으로 말하는 사람은 사람에게 말하는 것이 아니라, 하나님께 말하는 것입니다. 아무도 그것을 알아듣지 못합니다. 그는 성령으로 비밀을 말하는 것입니다. 그러나 예언하는 사람은 사람들에게 말하는 것입니다. 그는 덕을 끼치고, 위로하고, 격려하는 말을 합니다. 방언으로 말하는 사람은 자기에게만 덕을 끼치고, 예언하는 사람은 교회에 덕을 끼칩니다. 여러분이 모두 방언으로 말할 수 있기를 내가 바랍니다마는, 그보다도 예언할 수 있기를 더 바랍니다. 방언을 누가 통역하여 교회에 덕을 끼치게 해주지 않으면, 방언으로 말하는 사람보다, 예언하는 사람이 더 훌륭합니다.

Now, brothers, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction? Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the flute or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 형제자매 여러분, 내가 여러분에게로 가서 방언으로 말하고, 계시나 지식이나 예언이나 가르침을 전하는 방식으로 말하지 않는다면, 여러분에게 무슨 유익이 되겠습니까? 피리나 거문고와 같이 생명이 없는 악기도, 각각 음색이 다른 소리를 내지 않으면, 피리를 부는 것인지, 수금을 타는 것인지, 어떻게 알 수 있겠습니까? 또 나팔이 분명하지 않은 소리를 내면, 누가 전투를 준비하겠습니까? 이와 같이 여러분도 방언을 사용하기 때문에 분명한 말을 하지 않는다면, 그 말이 무슨 뜻인지 남이 어떻게 알겠습니까? 결국 여러분은 허공에다 대고 말하는 셈이 될 것입니다. 이 세상에는 수많은 종류의 말이 있습니다. 그러나 뜻이 없는 말은 하나도 없습니다.

If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and he is a foreigner to me. So it is with you. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church. For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 내가 그 말의 뜻을 알지 못하면, 나는 그 말을 하는 사람에게 딴 세상 사람이 되고, 그도 나에게 딴 세상 사람이 될 것입니다. 이와 같이 여러분도 성령의 은사를 갈구하는 사람들이니, 교회에 덕을 끼치도록, 그 은사를 더욱 넘치게 받기를 힘쓰십시오. 그러므로 방언으로 말하는 사람은 그것을 통역할 수 있기를 기도하십시오. 내가 방언으로 기도하면 내 영은 기도하지만, 내 마음은 아무런 열매를 얻지 못합니다. 그렇다면 어떻게 해야 하겠습니까? 나는 영으로 기도하고, 또 깨친 마음으로도 기도하겠습니다. 나는 영으로 찬미하고, 또 깨친 마음으로도 찬미하겠습니다.

If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. 그렇지 않고, 그대가 영으로만 감사를 드리면, 갓 믿기 시작한 사람은, 그것이 무슨 뜻인지를 알아듣지 못하므로, 어떻게 그 감사 기도에 "아멘" 하고 말할 수 있겠습니까? 그대가 훌륭하게 감사 기도를 드린다고 해도, 다른 사람에게는 덕이 되지 않습니다. 나는 여러분 가운데 누구보다도 더 많이 방언을 말할 수 있음을 하나님께 감사합니다. 그러나 나는, 방언으로 만 마디 말을 하기보다도, 다른 사람을 가르치기 위하여 나의 깨친 마음으로 교회에서 다섯 마디 말을 하기를 원합니다. 형제자매 여러분, 생각하는 데는 아이가 되지 마십시오. 악에는 아이가 되고, 생각하는 데는 어른이 되십시오.

In the Law it is written: "Through men of strange tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me," says the Lord. Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understandcomes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, "God is really among you!" 율법에 이렇게 기록되어 있습니다. 주님께서 말씀하시기를 "내가 방언을 하는 사람의 혀와 딴 나라 사람의 입술로 이 백성에게 말할지라도, 그들은 나의 말을 듣지 않을 것이다" 하셨습니다. 그러므로 방언은 신자들에게 주는 표징이 아니라 불신자들에게 주는 표징이고, 예언은 불신자들에게 주는 것이 아니라 신자들에게 주는 것입니다. 온 교회가 한 자리에 모여서 모두가 방언으로 말하고 있으면, 갓 믿기 시작한 사람이나 믿지 않는 사람이 들어와서 듣고, 여러분을 미쳤다고 하지 않겠습니까? 그러나 모두가 예언을 말하고 있으면, 갓 믿기 시작한 사람이나 믿지 않는 사람이 들어와서 듣고, 그 모두에게 질책을 받고 심판을 받아서, 그 마음 속에 숨은 일이 드러나게 됩니다. 그래서 그는 엎드려서 하나님께 경배하면서 "참으로 하나님께서 여러분 가운데 계십니다" 하고 환히 말할 것입니다.

What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 그러면 형제자매 여러분, 어떻게 해야 하겠습니까? 여러분이 함께 모이는 자리에는, 찬송하는 사람도 있고, 가르치는 사람도 있고, 하나님의 계시를 말하는 사람도 있고, 방언으로 말하는 사람도 있고, 통역하는 사람도 있습니다. 모든 일을 남에게 덕이 되게 하십시오. 누가 방언으로 말할 때에는, 둘 또는 많아야 셋이서 말하되, 차례로 말하고, 한 사람은 통역을 하십시오. 통역할 사람이 없거든, 교회에서는 침묵하고, 자기에게와 하나님께 말하십시오. 예언하는 사람은 둘이나 셋이서 말하고, 다른 이들은 그것을 분별하십시오. 그러나 앉아 있는 다른 사람에게 계시가 내리거든, 먼저 말하던 사람은 잠잠하십시오.

For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. 여러분은 모두 한 사람씩 한 사람씩 예언을 할 수 있습니다. 그래야 모두가 배우고, 권면을 받게 됩니다. 예언하는 사람의 영은 예언하는 사람에게 통제를 받습니다. 하나님은 무질서의 하나님이 아니라, 평화의 하나님이십니다. 성도들의 모든 교회에서 그렇게 하는 것과 같이, 여자들은 교회에서는 잠자코 있어야 합니다. 여자에게는 말하는 것이 허락되어 있지 않습니다. 율법에서도 말한 대로 여자들은 복종해야 합니다. 배우고 싶은 것이 있으면, 집에서 자기 남편에게 물으십시오. 여자가 교회에서 말하는 것은, 자기에게 부끄러운 일입니다.

Did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. If he ignores this, he himself will be ignored. Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. 하나님의 말씀이 여러분에게서 났습니까? 또는 여러분에게만 내렸습니까? 누구든지 자기가 예언자이거나 성령을 은사로 받은 사람이라 생각하거든, 내가 여러분에게 써 보내는 이 글이 주님의 명령이라는 것을 알아야 합니다. 누구든지 이것을 인정하지 않으면, 그 사람도 인정을 받지 못할 것입니다. 그러므로 나의 형제자매 여러분, 예언하기를 열심히 구하십시오. 그리고 방언으로 말하는 것을 막지 마십시오. 모든 일을 적절하게 하고 질서 있게 해야 합니다.
