When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, "As you know, the Passover is two days away--and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified." Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. "But not during the Feast," they said, "or there may be a riot among the people." 예수께서 이 모든 말씀을 마치셨을 때에, 자기 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. "너희가 아는 대로, 이틀이 지나면 유월절인데, 인자가 넘겨져서 십자가에 달릴 것이다." 그 즈음에 대제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 가야바라는 대제사장의 관저에 모여서, 예수를 속임수로 잡아서 죽이려고 모의하였다. 그러나 그들은 "백성 가운데서 소동이 일어날지도 모르니, 명절에는 하지 맙시다" 하고 말하였다.

While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked. "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor." Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 그런데 예수께서 베다니에서 나병환자 시몬의 집에 계실 때에, 한 여자가 매우 값진 향유 한 옥합을 가지고 와서는, 음식을 잡수시고 계시는 예수의 머리에 부었다. 그런데 제자들이 이것을 보고 분개하여 말하였다. "왜 이렇게 낭비하는 거요? 이 향유를 비싼 값에 팔아서, 가난한 사람들에게 줄 수 있었을 텐데요!" 예수께서 이것을 보시고 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "왜 이 여자를 괴롭히느냐? 그는 내게 아름다운 일을 하였다.

The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.' " So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover. When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 그 때부터 유다는 예수를 넘겨주려고 기회를 노리고 있었다. 무교절 첫째 날에 제자들이 예수께 다가와서 말하였다. "우리가, 선생님께서 유월절 음식을 잡수시게 준비하려고 하는데, 어디에다 하기를 바라십니까?" 예수께서 말씀하셨다. And while they were eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me." They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I, Lord?" Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born." Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "Yes, it is you." 그들이 먹고 있을 때에, 예수께서 말씀하셨다. "내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 너희 가운데 한 사람이 나를 넘겨줄 것이다." 그들은 몹시 걱정이 되어, 저마다 "주님, 나는 아니지요?" 하고 말하기 시작하였다. 예수께서 대답하셨다. "나와 함께 이 대접에 손을 담근 사람이, 나를 넘겨줄 것이다. 인자는 자기에 관하여 성경에 기록되어 있는 대로 떠나가지만, 인자를 넘겨주는 그 사람은 화가 있다. 그 사람은 차라리 태어나지 않았더라면, 자기에게 좋았을 것이다." 예수를 넘겨 줄 사람인 유다가 말하기를 "선생님, 나는 아니지요?" 하니, 예수께서 그에게 "네가 말하였다" 하고 대답하셨다.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom." When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 그들이 먹고 있을 때에, 예수께서 빵을 들어서 축복하신 다음에, 떼어서 제자들에게 주시고 말씀하셨다. "받아서 먹어라. 이것은 내 몸이다." 또 잔을 들어서 감사 기도를 드리신 다음에, 그들에게 주시고 말씀하셨다. Then Jesus told them, "This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: " 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will." "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same. 그 때에 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. "오늘 밤에 너희는 모두 나를 버릴 것이다. 성경에 기록하기를 '내가 목자를 칠 것이니, 양 떼가 흩어질 것이다' 하였다. 그러나 내가 살아난 뒤에, 너희보다 먼저 갈릴리로 갈 것이다." 베드로가 예수께 말하였다. "비록 모든 사람이 다 주님을 버릴지라도, 나는 절대로 버리지 않겠습니다." 예수께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 진정으로 네게 말한다. 오늘 밤에 닭이 울기 전에, 네가 세 번 나를 모른다고 할 것이다." 베드로가 예수께 말하였다. "주님과 함께 죽는 한이 있을지라도, 절대로 주님을 모른다고 하지 않겠습니다." 그리고 다른 제자들도 모두 그렇게 말하였다.

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. 그 때에 예수께서 제자들과 함께 겟세마네라고 하는 곳에 가서, 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 저기 가서 기도하는 동안에, 너희는 여기에 앉아 있어라." 그리고 베드로와 세베대의 두 아들을 데리고 가서, 근심하며 괴로워하기 시작하셨다. 그 때에 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "내 마음이 괴로워 죽을 지경이다. 너희는 여기에 머무르며 나와 함께 깨어 있어라." 예수께서는 조금 더 나아가서, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려서 기도하셨다. "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 시험에 빠지지 않도록, 깨어서 기도하여라. 마음은 원하지만, 육신이 약하구나!" 예수께서 다시 두 번째로 가서, 기도하셨다. Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!" While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him." Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him. Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for." Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 일어나서 가자. 보아라, 나를 넘겨줄 자가 가까이 왔다." 예수께서 아직 말씀하고 계실 때에, 열두 제자 가운데 하나인 유다가 왔다. 대제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 보낸 무리가 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 그와 함께 하였다. 그런데 예수를 넘겨줄 자가 그들에게 암호를 정하여 주기를 "내가 입을 맞추는 사람이 바로 그 사람이니, 그를 잡으시오" 하고 말해 놓았다. 유다가 곧바로 예수께 다가가서 "안녕하십니까? 선생님!" 하고 말하고, 그에게 입을 맞추었다. 예수께서 그에게 "친구여, 무엇 하러 여기에 왔느냐?" 하고 말씀하시니, 그들이 다가와서, 예수께 손을 대어 붙잡았다.

With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?" At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 그 때에 예수와 함께 있던 사람들 가운데 한 사람이 손을 뻗쳐 자기 칼을 빼어, 대제사장의 종을 내리쳐서, 그 귀를 잘랐다. 그 때에 예수께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "네 칼을 칼집에 도로 꽂아라. 칼을 쓰는 사람은 모두 칼로 망한다. 너희는, 내가 나의 아버지께, 당장에 열두 군단 이상의 천사들을 내 곁에 세워 주시기를 청할 수 있다고 생각하지 않느냐? 그러나 그렇게 되면, 이런 일이 반드시 일어나야 한다고 한 성경 말씀이 어떻게 이루어지겠느냐?" 그 때에 예수께서 무리에게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 강도에게 하듯이, 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 나를 잡으러 왔느냐? 내가 날마다 성전에 앉아서 가르치고 있었건만, 너희는 내게 손을 대지 않았다.

But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled. Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward 그러나 이 모든 일을 이렇게 되게 하신 것은, 예언자들의 글을 이루려고 하신 것이다." 그 때에 제자들은 모두, 예수를 버리고 달아났다. 예수를 잡은 사람들은 그를 대제사장 가야바에게로 끌고 갔다. 거기에는 율법학자들과 장로들이 모여 있었다. 그런데 베드로는 멀찍이 떨어져서 예수를 뒤따라 대제사장의 집 안마당에까지 갔다. 그는 결말을 보려고 안으로 들어가서, 하인들 틈에 끼여 앉았다. 대제사장들과 온 공의회가 예수를 사형에 처하려고, 그분을 고발할 거짓 증거를 찾고 있었다. 많은 사람이 나서서 거짓 증언을 하였으나, 쓸 만한 증거는 얻지 못하였다. 그런데 마침내 두 사람이 나서서

and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' " Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty one and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 말하였다. "이 사람이 하나님의 성전을 허물고, 사흘 만에 세울 수 있다고 하였습니다." 그러자, 대제사장이 일어서서, 예수께 말하였다. "이 사람들이 그대에게 불리하게 증언하는데도, 아무 답변도 하지 않소?" 그러나 예수께서는 잠자코 계셨다. 그래서 대제사장이 예수께 말하였다. "내가 살아 계신 하나님을 걸고 그대에게 명령하니, 우리에게 말해 주시오. 그대가 하나님의 아들 그리스도요?" 예수께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "당신이 말하였소. 그러나 내가 당신들에게 다시 말하오. 이제로부터 당신들은, 인자가 권능의 보좌 오른쪽에 앉아 있는 것과, 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을, 보게 될 것이오." 그 때에 대제사장은 자기 옷을 찢고, 큰 소리로 말하였다. "그가 하나님을 모독하였소. 이제 우리에게 이 이상 증인이 무슨 필요가 있겠소? 보시오, 여러분은 방금 하나님을 모독하는 말을 들었소.

What do you think?" "He is worthy of death," they answered. Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him and said, "Prophesy to us, Christ. Who hit you?" Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said. But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said. 여러분의 생각은 어떠하오?" 그러자 그들이 대답하였다. "그는 사형을 받아야 합니다." 그 때에 그들은 예수의 얼굴에 침을 뱉고, 그를 주먹으로 치고, 또 더러는 손바닥으로 때리기도 하며, 말하였다. Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." He denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!" After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away." Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: "Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly. 그리고서 베드로가 대문 있는 데로 나갔을 때에, 다른 하녀가 그를 보고, 거기에 있는 사람들에게 말하였다. "이 사람은 나사렛 예수와 함께 다니던 사람입니다." 그러자 베드로는 맹세하고 다시 부인하였다. "나는 그 사람을 알지 못하오." 조금 뒤에 거기에 서 있는 사람들이 베드로에게 다가와서 베드로에게 말하였다. "당신은 틀림없이 그들과 한패요. 당신의 말씨를 보니, 당신이 누군지 분명히 드러나오." 그 때에 베드로는 저주하며 맹세하여 말하였다. "나는 그 사람을 알지 못하오." 그러자 곧 닭이 울었다. 베드로는 "닭이 울기 전에, 네가 나를 세 번 부인할 것이다" 하신 예수의 말씀이 생각나서, 바깥으로 나가서 몹시 울었다.
