역대상 10장

 

Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa. The Philistines pressed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him. Saul said to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. 블레셋 사람이 이스라엘에 싸움을 걸어왔다. 이스라엘 사람들은 블레셋 사람 앞에서 도망하다가, 길보아 산에서 죽임을 당하여 쓰러졌다. 블레셋 사람들이 사울과 그의 아들들을 바싹 추격하여, 사울의 아들 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아를 죽였다. 싸움이 치열해지면서, 전세가 사울에게 불리해졌다. 활을 쏘는 군인들이 사울을 알아보고 활을 쏘자, 그가 화살을 맞고 중상을 입었다. 사울이 자기의 무기당번 병사에게 명령하였다. "네 칼을 뽑아서 나를 찔러라. 저 할례받지 못한 이교도들이 나를 조롱하지 못하게 하여라." 그러나 그의 무기당번 병사는 너무 겁이 나서, 찌르려고 하지 않았다. 그러자 사울은 자기의 칼을 뽑아서, 그 위에 엎어졌다. 그의 무기당번 병사는 사울이 죽는 것을 보고, 자기도 자기의 칼을 뽑아 그 위에 엎어져서, 사울과 함께 죽었다.

So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together. When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them. The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people. When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard of everything the Philistines had done to Saul, all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the great tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days. Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse. 길르앗의 야베스의 모든 사람은 블레셋 사람이 사울에게 한 모든 일을 전해 들었다. 그래서 그들의 용사들이 모두 나서서, 사울의 주검과 그의 아들들의 주검을 거두어다가 야베스로 가져 가서, 야베스에 있는 상수리나무 아래에 그들의 뼈를 묻고, 이레 동안 금식하였다. 사울이 주님을 배신하였기 때문에, 이렇게 죽었다. 그는 주님의 말씀을 지키지 않았고, 오히려 점쟁이와 상의하며 점쟁이의 지도를 받았다. 그는 주님께 지도를 받으려 하지 않았다. 그래서 주님께서 그를 죽이시고, 그의 나라를 이새의 아들 다윗에게 맡기셨다.
