열왕기하 1장

 

After Ahab's death, Moab rebelled against Israel. Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers, saying to them, "Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury." But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?' Therefore this is what the LORD says: 'You will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!' " So Elijah went. "A man came to meet us," they replied. "And he said to us, 'Go back to the king who sent you and tell him, "This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending men to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!" ' " The king asked them, "What kind of man was it who came to meet you and told you this?" They replied, "He was a man with a garment of hair and with a leather belt around his waist." The king said, "That was Elijah the Tishbite." Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, "Man of God, the king says, 'Come down!' " Elijah answered the captain, "If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!" Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men. 그들은 왕에게 사실대로 대답하였다. "너희들을 만나서 그러한 말을 한 그 사람이 어떻게 생겼더냐?" 그들이 왕에게 대답하였다. "털이 많고, 허리에는 가죽 띠를 띠고 있었습니다." 그러자 왕은 "그는 분명히 디셉 사람 엘리야다" 하고 외쳤다. 그리하여 왕은 오십부장에게 부하 쉰 명을 딸려서 엘리야에게 보냈다. 그 오십부장은 엘리야가 산꼭대기에 앉아 있는 것을 보고, 그에게 소리쳤다. "어명이오. 하나님의 사람께서는 내려오시오!" 엘리야가 그 오십부장에게 말하였다. "내가 하나님의 사람이라면, 불이 하늘에서 내려와서, 너와 네 부하 쉰 명을 모두 태울 것이다." 그러자 불이 하늘에서 내려와서, 그와 그의 부하 쉰 명을 태워 버렸다.

At this the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. The captain said to him, "Man of God, this is what the king says, 'Come down at once!' " "If I am a man of God," Elijah replied, "may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!" Then the fire of God fell from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men. So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. "Man of God," he begged, "please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants! See, fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men. But now have respect for my life!" The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king. 왕이 다시 다른 오십부장에게 부하 쉰 명을 딸려서 엘리야에게 보냈다. 그 오십부장은 엘리야에게 말하였다. "어명이오. 하나님의 사람께서는 내려오시오!" 엘리야가 그들에게 말하였다. "내가 하나님의 사람이라면, 불이 하늘에서 내려와서, 너와 네 부하 쉰 명을 모두 태울 것이다." 그러자 하나님의 불이 하늘에서 내려와서, 그와 그의 부하 쉰 명을 태웠다. 왕이 세 번째로 또 다른 오십부장에게 부하 쉰 명을 딸려서 보냈다. 그 세 번째 오십부장은 올라가서, 엘리야 앞에 무릎을 꿇고, 애원하며 말하였다. "하나님의 사람께서는 우리의 청을 물리치지 말아 주십시오. 나의 목숨과 어른의 종들인, 이 쉰 명의 목숨을 귀하게 여겨 주십시오. 보십시오, 하늘에서 불이 내려와서, 이미 오십부장 두 명과 그들의 부하 백 명을 모두 태워 죽였습니다. 그러니 이제 나의 목숨을 귀하게 여겨 주십시오." 그 때에 주님의 천사가 엘리야에게 말하였다. "그와 함께 내려가거라. 그 사람을 두려워하지 말아라." 그리하여 엘리야가 일어나서, 그와 함께 왕에게 내려갔다.

He told the king, "This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!" So he died, according to the word of the LORD that Elijah had spoken. Because Ahaziah had no son, Joram succeeded him as king in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. As for all the other events of Ahaziah's reign, and what he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 엘리야가 왕에게 말하였다. "주님께서 말씀하시기를 '네가, 에그론의 신 바알세붑에게 네 병에 관하여 물어 보려고 사절들을 보내다니, 이스라엘에 네가 말씀을 여쭈어 볼 하나님이 계시지 않더란 말이냐? 그러므로 너는, 네가 올라가 누운 그 병상에서 일어나 내려오지 못하고, 죽고 말 것이다' 하셨습니다." 엘리야가 전한 주님의 말씀대로, 북왕국 이스라엘에서는 아하시야 왕이 죽었다. 그에게 아들이 없었으므로, 그의 동생 여호람이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다. 때는 남왕국 유다에서 여호사밧의 아들 여호람이 즉위하여 다스린 지 이년이 되던 해였다. 아하시야가 한 나머지 일들은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다.
