The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Say to the Israelites: 'Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud. " 'There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. The coney, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. 주님께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 이스라엘 자손에게 다음과 같이 일러라. 땅에서 사는 모든 짐승 가운데서, 너희가 먹을 수 있는 동물은 다음과 같다. 짐승 가운데서 굽이 갈라진 쪽발이면서 새김질도 하는 짐승은, 모두 너희가 먹을 수 있다. 새김질을 하거나 굽이 두 쪽으로 갈라졌더라도, 다음과 같은 것은 너희가 먹지 못한다. 낙타는 새김질은 하지만, 굽이 갈라지지 않았으므로 너희에게는 부정한 것이다. 오소리도 새김질은 하지만, 굽이 갈라지지 않았으므로 너희에게는 부정한 것이다.

The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you. " 'Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. And since you are to detest them, you must not eat their meat and you must detest their carcasses. Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be detestable to you. the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat. " 'All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. 타조와 올빼미와 갈매기와 각종 매와 부엉이와 가마우지와 따오기와 백조와 펠리컨과 흰물오리와 고니와 각종 푸른해오라기와 오디새와 박쥐이다. 네 발로 걷는 날개 달린 벌레는, 모두 너희가 피해야 할 것이다.

There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest. " 'You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. Whoever picks up one of their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. 그러나 네 발로 걷는 날개 달린 곤충 가운데서도, 발과 다리가 있어서, 땅 위에서 뛸 수 있는 것은, 모두 너희가 먹어도 된다. 너희가 먹을 수 있는 것은 여러 가지 메뚜기와 방아깨비와 누리와 귀뚜라미 같은 것이다. 이 밖에 네 발로 걷는 날개 달린 벌레는, 모두 너희가 피해야 할 것이다. 이런 것들이 너희를 부정 타게 한다. 그런 것들의 주검을 만지는 사람은 누구나 저녁때까지 부정하다. 그 주검을 옮기는 사람은 누구나 자기 옷을 빨아야 한다. 그는 저녁때까지 부정하다.

" 'Every animal that has a split hoof not completely divided or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you; whoever touches the carcass of any of them will be unclean. Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up their carcasses must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. They are unclean for you. " 'Of the animals that move about on the ground, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard, the gecko, the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink and the chameleon. 굽이 있어도 갈라지지 않았거나 새김질하지 않는 짐승은, 모두 너희에게는 부정한 것이다. 그것들을 만지는 사람은 누구나 부정하게 된다. 네 발로 걷는 모든 짐승 가운데서 발바닥으로 다니는 것은, 모두 너희에게 부정한 것이다. 그런 짐승의 주검을 만지는 사람은 누구나 저녁때까지 부정하다. 그 주검을 옮기는 사람은 누구나 자기 옷을 빨아야 한다. 그는 저녁때까지 부정하다. 그런 것들이 너희를 부정 타게 한다. 땅에 기어 다니는 길짐승 가운데서 너희에게 부정한 것은, 족제비와 쥐와 각종 큰도마뱀과 수종과 육지악어와 도마뱀과 모래도마뱀과 카멜레온이다.

Of all those that move along the ground, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening. When one of them dies and falls on something, that article, whatever its use, will be unclean, whether it is made of wood, cloth, hide or sackcloth. Put it in water; it will be unclean till evening, and then it will be clean. If one of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean, and you must break the pot. Any food that could be eaten but has water on it from such a pot is unclean, and any liquid that could be drunk from it is unclean. Anything that one of their carcasses falls on becomes unclean; an oven or cooking pot must be broken up. They are unclean, and you are to regard them as unclean. 모든 길짐승 가운데서 이런 것들은 너희에게 부정한 것이다. 이것들이 죽었을 때에, 그것들을 만지는 사람은 누구나 저녁때까지 부정하다. 이것들이 죽었을 때에, 나무로 만든 어떤 그릇에나, 옷에나, 가죽에나, 자루에나, 여러 가지로 쓰이는 각종 그릇에나, 이런 것에 떨어져서 닿으면, 그 그릇들은 모두 부정을 탄다. 이렇게 부정을 탄 것은 물에 담가야 한다. 그것은 저녁때까지 부정하다. 저녁이 지나고 나면, 그것은 정하게 된다. 그 죽은 것이 어떤 오지그릇에 빠지면, 그 그릇 안에 있는 것은 다 부정하게 된다. 너희는 그 그릇을 깨뜨려야 한다. 요리가 된 젖은 음식이 그 안에 있었다면, 그것도 모두 부정하게 된다. 어떤 그릇에 담겼든지, 물이나 다른 마실 것은 모두 부정을 탄다. 이런 것들의 주검이 어떤 물건에 떨어지면, 그 물건은 부정을 탄다. 가마든지, 화로든지, 모두 깨뜨려야 한다. 그것들은 부정해서, 너희까지도 부정을 타게 할 것이다.

A spring, however, or a cistern for collecting water remains clean, but anyone who touches one of these carcasses is unclean. If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean. But if water has been put on the seed and a carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you. " 'If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the carcass will be unclean till evening. Anyone who eats some of the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up the carcass must wash his clothes, and he will be unclean till evening. 그렇지만 샘과 물웅덩이와 물이 고인 곳은, 정한 채로 남아 있다. 그러나 그것들의 주검을 만지면, 누구나 부정을 탄다. 뿌리려는 어떤 씨에 이런 것들의 주검이 떨어져도, 그 씨는 부정을 타지 않는다. 그러나 그 씨가 물에 젖어 있을 때에, 이런 것들의 주검이 그 씨에 떨어지면, 그 씨는 너희에게는 부정한 것이 된다. 너희가 먹을 수 있는 짐승이 죽었을 때에, 그 주검을 만진 사람은 저녁때까지 부정하다. 죽은 고기를 먹은 사람은 입고 있던 옷을 빨아 입어야 한다. 그의 부정한 상태는 저녁때까지 계속된다. 그 주검을 옮기는 사람도 옷을 빨아 입어야 한다. 그 경우에도 그 부정한 상태는 저녁때까지 계속된다.

" 'Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten. You are not to eat any creature that moves about on the ground, whether it moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet; it is detestable. Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them or be made unclean by them. I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground. I am the LORD who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy. 땅에 기어 다니는 모든 길짐승은 꺼려야 한다. 그것들을 먹어서는 안 된다. 기어 다니는 것, 곧 배로 기어 다니든지, 네 발로나 여러 발로 땅을 기어 다니는 것은, 모두 너희가 먹지 못한다. 그것은 피해야 할 것이기 때문이다. 너희는, 기어 다니는 어떤 길짐승에든 닿아, 너희 자신을 꺼려야 할 사람이 되게 하여서는 안 된다. 너희는 그런 것으로 자신을 더럽혀 부정을 타서는 안 된다. 그것들이 너희를 더럽히지 못하도록 하여라. 나는 주 너희의 하나님이다. 그러므로 너희는 몸을 구별하여 바쳐서, 거룩한 사람이 되어야 한다. 내가 거룩하니, 너희도 거룩하게 되어야 한다. 땅에 기어 다니는 어떤 길짐승 때문에, 너희가 자신을 부정하게 하여서는 안 된다. 나는 너희 하나님이 되려고, 너희를 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나온 주다. 내가 거룩하니, 너희도 거룩하게 되어야 한다.

" 'These are the regulations concerning animals, birds, every living thing that moves in the water and every creature that moves about on the ground. You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.' " 위에서 말한 것은, 짐승과 새와 물 속에서 우글거리는 모든 고기 떼와 땅에 기어 다니는 모든 것에 관한 규례다. 이것은 부정한 것과 정한 것을 구별하고, 먹을 수 있는 동물과 먹을 수 없는 동물을 구별하려고 만든 규례다."
