요한계시록 18장

After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries." Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. 그 뒤에 나는 다른 천사가 큰 권세를 가지고 하늘에서 내려오는 것을 보았습니다. 땅은 그의 영광으로 환해졌습니다. 그는 힘찬 소리로 외쳤습니다. Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Mix her a double portion from her own cup. Give her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts, 'I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.' Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her. "When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: " 'Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!' 너희는 그 도시가 준 만큼 그 도시에 돌려주고, 그 도시의 행실대로 갑절로 갚아 주어라. 너희는 그 도시가 섞은 잔에 갑절로 섞어 주어라. 그 도시가 그렇게 자기를 영화롭게 하고, 사치하였으니, 그만큼 그에게 고통과 슬픔을 안겨 주어라. 그 도시는 마음 속으로 '나는 여왕의 자리에 앉아 있고, 과부가 아니니, 절대로 슬픔을 맛보지 않을 것이다' 하고 말한다. 그러므로 그 도시에 재난 곧 죽음과 슬픔과 굶주림이 하루 사이에 닥칠 것이요, 그 도시는 불에 타 버릴 것이다. 그 도시를 심판하신 주 하나님은 강한 분이시기 때문이다." 그 도시와 더불어 음행을 하고 방탕한 생활을 한 세상의 왕들은, 그 도시를 태우는 불의 연기를 보고, 그 도시를 두고 울며, 가슴을 칠 것입니다. 그들은 그 도시가 당하는 고문이 두려워서, 멀리 서서, "화를 입었다. 화를 입었다. 큰 도시야! 이 강한 도시 바빌론아! 너에게 심판이 한 순간에 닥쳤구나" 하고 말할 것입니다.

"The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes any more-- cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and bodies and souls of men. "They will say, 'The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.' The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. and cry out: " 'Woe! Woe, O great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls! In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!' "Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, 'Was there ever a city like this great city?' They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: " 'Woe! Woe, O great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin! Rejoice over her, O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged her for the way she treated you.' " 말하기를, "화를 입었다. 화를 입었다. 고운 모시 옷과 자주색 옷과 빨간색 옷을 입고 금과 보석과 진주로 꾸민 큰 도시야, 그렇게도 많던 재물이 한 순간에 잿더미가 되고 말았구나"할 것입니다. 또 모든 선장과 선객과 선원과 바다에서 일하는 사람들도 다 멀리 서서, 그 도시를 태우는 불의 연기를 보고 "저렇게 큰 도시가 또 어디 있겠는가!" 하고 외칠 것입니다. 그리고 그들은 머리에 먼지를 뿌리고, 슬피 울면서, "화를 입었다. 화를 입었다. 큰 도시야! 바다에 배를 가진 사람은 모두 그 도시의 값진 상품으로 부자가 되었건만, 그것이 한 순간에 잿더미가 되고 말았구나!" 하고 부르짖었습니다. 하늘과 성도들과 사도들과 예언자들이여, 즐거워하십시오. 하나님께서는 그대들을 위하여 그 도시를 심판하셨습니다.

Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: "With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again. The music of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No workman of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again. The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's great men. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray. In her was found the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been killed on the earth." 또 힘센 천사가 큰 맷돌과 같은 돌을 들어 바다에 던지고서 말하였습니다. "그 큰 도시 바빌론이 이렇게 큰 힘으로 던져질 터이니, 다시는 그 흔적도 찾을 수 없을 것이다. 거문고를 타는 사람들과 노래를 부르는 사람들과 피리를 부는 사람들과 나팔을 부는 사람들의 노랫소리가 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이요, 어떠한 세공장이도 네 안에서 하나도 보이지 않을 것이요, 맷돌 소리도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다. 등불 빛도 다시는 네 안에서 비치지 않을 것이요, 신랑과 신부의 음성도 다시는 네 안에서 들리지 않을 것이다. 그것은 네 상인들이 땅의 세도가로 행세하고 모든 민족이 네 마술에 속아넘어갔기 때문이고, 예언자들의 피와 성도들의 피와 땅에서 죽임을 당한 모든 사람의 피가 이 도시에서 발견되었기 때문이다.
